I hate the loser mentality that blames it all on the ref here, but it would be hard for me as a player to not feel undone by what happened last night, taking the entirety of the match into account. At half time, it was my feeling that things were a bit slanted towards Brazil, but it was nothing too crazy, given that they were the home team. But when you pile the 2nd half on top of that, yes, players have a right to be a bit sour. Far too often here, the refrain is that the ref didn't do his job, and that the opposite team players are villainous thugs (when they're doing what our players do too). I guess that's to be expected, but with last night's match, the ref clearly affected the outcome. But it's not like Conmebol will do anything about it.
1. Was it a foul in the penalty area? Yes 2. Was it a penalty per the rules? Yes 3. Did the VAR ref tell the main ref to check the incident? Yes If the main ref would have checked the incident, would he HAVE to give the penalty and give Dani Alves a second yellow card? Yes “Yes” to all questions above. No “pacifying” needed.
I don't even mind not getting calls but when the ref is discriminate in the way he punishes one team and let's the other get away with everything then it's not a fair game anymore. If we were chopping their legs but didn't get favorable calls our way I wouldn't mind because there would be consistency. We had accumulated cards and fouls when the game didn't start meanwhile Brazil killed many of our counters by fouling messi with nothing given sometimes not even called. This is reminiscent of 2007 except then Riquelme couldn't influence the match at all and we didn't dominate like yesteday
I don’t have a problem with losing, if we get outplayed or we just flat out suck. We’ve had many discussions about those topics. And if you look at the history around these parts, we’ve hardly ever blamed the ref. We’ve blamed our managers and players. This time the ref had far too much influence. This isn’t our character to blame the ref, we were not outplayed. We played with desire and balls and yet it was ripped away from us. There is a reason why Foyth stopped on the second goal, he was waiting for a whistle. Utter bullshit.
It's a shame Lanzini and Lamela are so injury prone, i still think both have something to offer the NT if they could just stay fit.
Lionel Messi vs. BrazilHe hadn't done a whole lot in this tournament, but when he really needed to step up, he did. Unfortunately luck just wasn't on his or Argentina's side... again.Shouldn't take away from what was a really good individual performance against the hosts. pic.twitter.com/xV0MnvxXxD— Marc Geschwind (@MarcGeschwind) July 3, 2019 I know these are just Messi highlights from yesterday’s game, but I wanted to highlight the 3-4 beautiful interchanges between our players (Messi-Aguero-Lautaro-De Paul) towards the end of the clip — fast interchanges like the Argentina of old — rather than just standing around. We might be onto something special — with a few more youth prospects panning out (Palacios, Zaracho, Romero, etc.)
How Foyth develops depends on how Pochettino uses him. I would prefer him at DM. He is so comfortable on the ball and defensively is getting better and better. I would have him in there rather than Paredes. He is comfortable carrying the ball has a wide passing range and is more mobile. A tandem with Santi, Palacios and Lo Celso pretty much sets up the midfield core for the next cycle. https://streamable.com/zf0lx He also played himself out of trouble a couple of times with lovely footwork and found someone in midfield with ease. He is also still a little reckless and he and Otamendi twice gifted them chances in transition.
You have really lost the plot. Truly lost it. You are making up your own addenda one that does not suit the facts of the match yesterday. Quite aside from some of your ridiculous player selections in recent months. There were grave injustices in the refereeing. How Tagliafico was booked immediately and Casemiro escaped a card from an identical challenge. Explain that. Or how Martinez did not even make contact with Sandro who rolls around and the referee sprints over brandishing the yellow card. CONMEBOL is an embarrassment. The way this tournament has been set up, the pitches, the empty stadiums and the standard of refereeing is abysmal. VAR was effective in Russia and it has been in this tournament until the abomination in officiating last night. Can you imagine a fiasco of this level at the European Championships ? I cannot. There would be enormous scrutiny of the decisions. This referee was beyond incompetent. Both penalty decisions should have been referred to VAR and if necessary the second goal disallowed. Those numskulls on this forum and others who are claiming that the Aguero and Otamendi incidents were not penalties clearly have no grasp of the rules of association football. It was robbery. As SM says had we played badly or been outplayed then the recriminations would be directed towards the coach or certain players as they were after the Colombia game or other recent incumbents like Bauza and Maradona.
We have some outstanding prospects in the centre of defence, the midfield and at last some real talent in between the sticks. What is concerning is the lack of laterals and strikers aside from Lautaro. Of course most of these players including El Toro need to keep improving as they still have deficiencies in their games. They need to become central figures at their clubs and become world class but they most certainly can. What is worrying is how the depth is not as great as it used to be in certain areas and this needs to be rectified by the AFA and clubs.
He has been excellent for Genoa. Rugged old style defender Ayala esque. Great in the air and on the ground, intercepts passes and is a very tough tackler who wins the ball more often than not before relaying the ball to others more at ease on the ball. A defenders defender.
Kranevitter is a lost cause and Funes Mori is not of the standard required. The young guard needs to come in and learn their trade at the highest level. Quarta still has a shot and a season ago looked more than comfortable to stepping up to the seleccion but his form has been patchy and you can also then put Marcos Senesi into the picture. Paredes needs to improve his mobility, to be more physical, to get into spaces to pick up the ball and be more prepared to carry the ball.
The AFA need to lodge a complaint not just with CONMEBOL but FIFA and have the referee sanctioned. It is entirely unacceptable in a game of this magnitude that such glaring incompetence is overlooked. He should never be allowed to officiate at a major tournament again. All referees including all the top ones like Cakir, Kupers, Skomina or Brych and others would have no hesitation in making sure. They are not insecure nobodies. Apparently this turd's wife is Brazilian as well.
Once again you are living in cloud cuckoo land. Are you sure you are not a Brazuca in disguise ? VAR was used pretty effectively in Russia and at the Womens World Cup and indeed here to correct even marginal decisions. The decisions yesterday were not deciding if a corner should or not be awarded they were very major decisions that affected the result directly.
According to various sources (TyC and Ole), AFA are preparing to launch a complaint to Conmebol. It's more than confirmed that they will launch it with this twitter that they uploaded. "We saw the same thing that you saw" @Argentina 🇦🇷💙 pic.twitter.com/xhEgEBp2FY— AFA (@afa) July 3, 2019 I hope the referee is sanctioned and that we have more competent referees for next year's Copa.
He was not bad but he needs to be better under pressure and more positive. He has the capability to be an excellent player but he has issues to iron out with his game and one is mobility and dropping into space. He wasted a season in Russia and riding the bench at PSG is not going to help and actually PSG selling him or sending him out on loan may be the best thing. My preferred base of the midfield is Santi/Foyth and an eye on Paredes and Nicolas Dominguez.
I honestly cant understand in what universe Foyth is ahead in the pecking order, AT MIDFIELD, of Paredes. While not having had a special tournament, I don't see how it can be argued that he was among the very best and most consistent Argentina had to offer. I'll reiterate that the way forward is a Parades Lo Celso pairing. Lo Celso fell slightly behind for me, but it's no reason to quit on him. My primary focus would be to put a plan in action to get those 2 to perform at their best, and cover any defeciencies that pairing may cause. I like the idea of identifyimg a destroyer to play behind those 2. I shudder to think of what a Mascherano would have done for them.
For me, I think that AFA should really make a firm decision to either keep Scaloni until the WC 22 is over if we do qualify or get a new manager now. I know AFA said that they want to keep Scaloni until the end of the year, but then there would be no time for the new manager to test with the squad as the world cup qualifier starts in March of next year and then the Copa 2020 starts right after that. With Copa 2020 and the world cup qualifiers coming up next year, this fall is really important as it's one of the only two time period (the other would be in Spring and Summer 2022 after the Conmebol WCQ is over) where there's a set of friendlies to experiment and for the squad to understand the manager's idea without any pressure. EDIT: well AFA officially sent the complaints to Conmebol https://www.ole.com.ar/seleccion/oficial-queja-afa-carta-conmebol_0_D_k47URhr.html For spanish speaking people who are interested to read the complaints https://drive.google.com/file/d/1edPItrq5iS0xCErpqXzQZaFKFNo4abW-/view
Most of us have been on this forum a long time...Argentina fans even longer so let me ask this. When was the last time we went to Brazil in a competitive match and not get mugged? VAR or no VAR, there was no reason to believe we were magically going to start getting calls.
