All these new girl "rockers" annoy me. Like Avril Lavigne, Ashlee Simpson, Fefe Dobson, Hilary Duff, Michelle Branch, etc. Also, I can't stand these poppish punk/rock bands that sound like dying squirrels (i.e. New Found Glory and Bowling for Soup.) Their voices just really bug me.

Now, Creed is a band that I really didn't like. I wouldn't say they "sucked" cause they were good musicians. Scott Stapp just made me angry cause he was too full of himself and tried too hard to be poetic in his lyrics. Plus, he hardly opened his mouth when he sung so it sounded/looked like he was constipated.

Here's another one I forgot to mention, early 90s Club/dance music. You know, like LaBouche, Crystal Waters, stuff like that. And there's always infomercials for compilations of this music. I wonder if anybody actually buys this stuff? Funny, funny.

How about jock jams? I hate those too. It's unfortunate too, because a tiny few okay songs get butchered by being overplayed by these clowns. I hate Ozzy's Crazy Train precisely because of this, even though it's not that bad song per say.

I also hate that "jam band" stuff. Boooooring. I went to see my friend's band at this festival once, and this crappy jam band was playing before them and had nearly twice as long of a set because their crappy songs take like 51 minutes to be played. And their stupid hippy fans twirling around like a turds being flushed made things worse. I mean, if your songs are going to be long, can they at least be good? Is that too much to ask?

Oh, and one more kind, anything that VH1 overplays. Mark McGrath, Smashmouth, Vertical Horizon, and the like. Do they even show music anymore? I haven't had cable for a couple years.

And all the music they play at the stadium during NFL games. Dudes, does "We Will Rock You" pump anyone up any more? You've been freaking playing it (and every other lame, clichéd song) for two decades already. Football is advertised as a sport of strong, aggressive men - stop playing music by effeminate lace-wearers.

    This thread is fun.

now this is exactly the kind of aesthetic i was hoping for:

paraphrased: i don't like Creed in part because of how the vocalist looks while he sings.

(i don't like it when people write poetic lyrics is, at least, about the songs)

i don't like what you say because your fingers look funny when you type!!! ;)

I completely agree. Add to the list that song by Gary Glitter, History of Music Vol 1.

Gary Glitter, now there was a pretentious **************. We could do a thread all about him...

and the value in that would be...? ;)

i don't suppose anyone has come onto the idea that Gary Glitter intended himself to be viewed as a pretentious ponce. the kiddie porn issue aside, he thought of himself as a artist of uncompromising vision. oh, yeah!

just for a minute consider the possibility that someone would say that they hate the Beatles and Eric Clapton because to do so is avant garde in some obscure way. it isn't based on the talent of the performers or the breadth of their corporate contribution to the History of Music. the statement is designed to prove that someone can hate something other people have ordained as inherently praiseworthy.

so it isn't at all the content of the statement that makes that person a lunatic, it's the motive.

i will quickly agree that i could be wrong about the motive, but i doubt it. i have known so many lunatics in my day that i am confident in my conviction.

if it turns out that i am completely wrong, i will gladly and humbly apologize, but i think that history should be the judge.

Music I hate... kind of a strong word. I just don't listen to the music I don't like. But what I shy away from...

Pop: Yes, I'm talking about Spears, Aguilera, boy bands and all of the other rubbish. Funny, one time Spears said "Pop Music is hard to make!" and in a way I do believe her. I mean, how can anyone on good conscious make a totally un-original album and look at their fance with a straight face?

Smooth Jazz: IMO, this has to be some of the most mind-numbingly dull and un-inspired 'muzak' I've ever heard. Cats like Kenny G are the anti-music. It just sounds like a horrible, soulless, empty sound void of any actual throught or passion to music or creativity. More like: "this works. lets can it and ship it out. Heaven knows there are enough tone deaf wonders that'll buy it." What's more... some musicians (thinkin' of David Sanborn) think they can force emotion and feeling by simply playing louder and faster, which is actually worse.

Rap: I don't dig rap as much as I used to but I have started having a sort of Renaissance thanks to the "Solid Steel" mixes done by Herbaliser, Mr. Scruff, etc. - I've gotten more into my old school collection and collecting vinyls again, checkin' out Guru, Premier, etc. So I guess I can't say I 'hate' rap. But... that garbage by folks like Master P. has got to go.

Latin: Shocked? I don't like Merengue. Can't stomache it. I blame it on the choppos that I went to school with that used to play Ilegales all the damn time. Can't stomache the beat and when I hear it I come inches away from ripping the stereo out of my car. Not to say I hate latin music - I quite like latin house and bossa house. That salsa/merengue stuff... NO WAY.

Raggea: Another shocker. Don't like it. Drives me nuts. But... I do like Bob Marley & the Whalers and maybe 1 or two other artists. But otherwise... rough stuff. No place for it in my rotation. I end up automatically making my own lyrics and making fun of the songs when they come on the radio. Mad Cobra, Mad Lion, SHABBA, etc. Cheesy.

Brit Pop: This is actually worse to me than USA pop! They put out about 5 or 6 different "Top of the Pops" cd's each year and saturate the market with pop-culture. And some of these songs are so dreadful, you can't help but wonder if they'll go to hell when they die for putting out such rubbish! All Saints, Boyzone, etc. etc. puke.

Techno: I tend to differentiate between trance, house, D&B, Jungle and techno. Good trance is stuff that's great for driving IMO, smoothed out house is cool for the bar or hittin' the town. D&B - I dont fancy so much but it's so outdated now, who could? Jungle I never liked. But Techno... like... that massive noise, ear piercing sounds... can't handle anymore.

Country: Well, just not my cup of tea. Not to say that country is 'bad' music - some of it is actually quite good. But it's not not a sound for me.

That just about covers it. There are some more things I don't care for so much... like that stuff by Yawny and I am president of the "John Tesh Should Burn at the Stake" fan-club. And then there's Michael Bolton... who shreiked so much his hair fell out. Rod Stewart post 1990? But is there a category for them? There is? "Classic Rock"? Ooooooh.... I think I hate that category most of all. Warbly, sappy, tracks for the 'workday' that do nothing but send me 10 blinks closer to slumberland.

While spelling correctly is not a pre-requisite to making ones point, it does help establish credibility. You apparently have discovered a new music genre and a well-eceived exponent of that genre. Keep searching thru the raggea vaults. Perhaps you will come across a couple of cutting edge bands named The Elbowsimians or Stale Putz. ;)

Seriously, though, I did like that you have well defined reasons for not liking certain types of music an artists. It gives me a point of reference. I think that paring David Sanborn with Kenny G is far too complimentary to Mr. G.

Is it safe to say that your strongest musical preferences run toward death/thrash metal and psycho-punk? You didn't quite say...

Oh dear - a grammar narc that thinks he's actually funny.

Garnering credibility from someone I have never met, who comes off as a rather arrogant clown that's offended by my not liking a type of music, is the least of my concerns.

That's great. It's an opinion. Get over it.

    No.

But if you took 2 seconds to actually read this forum (or even my signature) you might realize what just one of my many musical tastes are. As it stands you're doing little more than coming off as an over-assuming, pompous, pseudo-intellectual ass. And you're doing a good job of it, I might add.

Please do continue to edit my grammar and spelling. You've added little else in the means of actual substance in your reply to me.

i wasn't offended by the fact that you don't like reggae. i'm not even offended that you refer to me as an arrogant clown. i'm offended, though, that you would insult me by suggesting i am a pseudo-intellectual ass. i am not pseudo-intellectual.

what you are doing a good job of, not that you are interested in my private opinion, is being clever when it would have been better to be kind.

you have taught me a lesson, sir, and i shall be more careful in the future.

    Don't Cry

"i am not pseudo-intellectual" says the individual that felt the need to correct my spelling while in the process of doing so made a silly spelling mistake himself. "well-eceived" - oh dear...

I don't care if someone has a different opinion. Fine as can be - I welcome it - that's one of the things that's great about music to me. While I don't like the music I listed in this thread there are millions upon millions... even billions who would disagree. That's fine - there is no 'bad music' as far as I'm concerned, but there is music that's not for me. And 'raggea' falls into that category.

But starting with suggestions of someone losing 'credibility' based on a spelling error while committing one in a failed attempt at being clever yourself... I certainly hope you have learned a lesson, if anything, on 'irony'. ;) If not - of course you could always look at the closing two sentences of your first reply and actually do the history. But that wouldn't be irony, it would only be a further exposure of your ignorance. Other than the obvious, I actually don't like Death/Black metal either!

Meh. Continue drawing your conclusions. They're quite interesting. :)

You must spread some Reputation around before...

See, Alex doesn't just beat people down. He drags the ragged, broken corpse through the streets afterward so little children can throw rocks at it and old men can have their photographs taken with it.
