As stated above, in order to be "the Cubs of the MLS" they would have to actually have one the World Series (Supporters Shield, MLS Cup and/or US Open Cup) at some point. Try the "Senators of the MLS"
The original Senators won the 1924 World Series over the NY Giants in seven games. Which means, of course, that DC has celebrated a World Series title more recently than Chicago (either the South Side or the North Side) or Boston. They've won a couple more titles as the Twins. The second Senators became the Texas Rangers, and have never won squat.
This comparison is ludicrous. The only thing the Cubs and Metros have in common is that they both lost on the same evening. One was a playoff loss, the other was a Cup loss. The Metros season is far from over. The Cubs season is over. The Metros did not choke, they were outplayed in a tough battle. All the credit belongs to the Fire. The Cubs choked and blew a 3-1 game lead, and a 3-0 lead with 5 outs to go. Instead on owning up to choking, they blame it on a phantom "curse". The only ones who love the Cubs are their fans. What other fans "love" them? Metros fans "love" the Metros, but obviously the Cubs have many, many more fans. The Cubs are over 100 years old, the Metros are only 8. Obviously the Cubs have had more opportunites to win something. Is that a fair comparison?
Why? The Tigers went to three World Series in their first eight years. Doesn't sound very Crew-like to me....
