WE march ever closer to our season finale fans! Our lovable heroes have been beaten, battered, and maligned. The newly human leader continues to adapt to his newfound life. Despite the best efforts of a hero from overseas, glory has been elusive for our yellow wearing Crew. Even when they manage to find a foothold of advantage, they conspire to throw it away of their own volition. The citizens are asking tough questions, with little answers. Now they must turn their attention to a foe from the frozen wasteland to the north. A foe that is also one of their rivals for the last remaining spots in the end of season tournament championship, which our lovable heros won last season. It is now or never. Our Crew must claim glory soon, or a long offseason awaits.
Win by 2. I think we're overdue for some home cooking; an everything-goes-right game. We played pretty decent against New England on the road, Zelarayan wasn't there for that one either, and Montreal isn't New England. Be massive. If nothing else, I'm having dinner at Buca di Beppo pre-game, so I win regardless.
With so many injuries, do we get the 4-4-2 lineup with Zardes and "has-been before he ever was" Berry up top?
Note about Montreal: They'll be in Halifax tonight to kick off their Canadian Championship campaign. I haven't seen anything about who is travelling or which players are available, but Wilfried Nancy is saying that it's an important competition. It is the easiest path to CONCACAF Champions League (and they're defending champs), so they may or may not put out some first-teamers. They're heading back to Montreal before coming to Columbus on Friday, so we'll get them after short rest and loads of miles. Sunshine rising?
There's some good stuff in the Nordecke newsletter, including this which could apply to anyone attending the game: Turn the Nordecke Gold on 9/25! Wear Gold on 9/25 to show your support for the Crew and against Childhood Cancer! Let's show Montreal a wall of yellow as we take them this Saturday! Share a picture in your gold/yellow gear at the match and for every time you use #KickChildhoodCancer Continental Tire and MLS will donate $1 to support those impacted by Childhood Cancer. So make the league pay up and show your support for the Crew this Saturday with one tweet! During Save the Crew, Arnold Schwarzenegger donned a scarf for us now let's show him and After-School All-Stars Ohio some support in helping to raise supplies for after-school programs in east and south Columbus. https://www.amazon.com/hz/wishlist/ls/1WMDQP0B6HTJY?ref_=wl_share Or, if you're feeling rich, hang out with Arnold at the LDC. https://secure.givelively.org/event...hio/7th-annual-experience-arnold-casino-night
It'd be cool if the Arnold Expo could host some events at the LDC in future years. Rogue expanded their Invitational (which is similar) and moved it from their headquarters to Dell Diamond in Austin (ick). Gotta imagine our facilities are more than good enough
It's a hell of a trek because you have to drive so far north to get a ferry over. There used to be one from Maine but the boat died or something But it's a seafood lovers paradise. The best scallops in the world, Digby Scallops, by the bucket right off the boats. Lobsters for next to nothing that they caught 2 hours earlier. You can also book guys who'll take you out to commune with whales in the Bay of Fundy. Big old blue whales cresting 20 feet away. A hell of an experience. I highly recommend it, but fly into Halifax from Toronto rather than drive. We took the dogs and they had a blast but if we go back it's the kennel for them.
There's still one from Maine, but it's closed due to COVID (no surprise). I've had some pretty good Bay of Fundy scallops on Campobello Island, a number of years back. I love seafood, so that sounds wonderful. I'd probably want to go to PEI too as long as I was up there. Great-great grandparents were from the Nictaux/Annapolis area--from a Tory family. They went back to Massachusetts due to economics right after the Civil War. If anyone here ever had Latin and read from Wheelock's Latin--that's a cousin a couple of times removed.
I'd be much more likely to go back if it didn't take two days to get there. If they restarted the Maine ferry that's great news.
Obviously it wouldn't be close to a sellout but both Pro Strongman (Giants Live @ St. Alberts) and Crossfit (Rogue Invitational @ 5th and Cleveland Ave) would lend themselves to something like this. Some of the other sports that they do at the fairgrounds could also work
I'd be worried about Arnold Expo stuff being outdoors, especially at that time of year. I'm sure for any sort of judging-type of competition, they'd want it indoors. Isn't there a 5K as part of the expo? Maybe the LDC could somehow be incorporated with that.
Crewster point standing going into the weekend: EAST New England 20 NYC 3 Nashville 2 DC 1 Montreal 1 Orlando -1 Atlanta -3 Philadelphia -4 Columbus -5 NYRB -9 Miami -10 Cincinnati -13 Toronto -15 Chicago -19 WEST Colorado 8 Kansas City 7 Seattle 6 Portland 1 LA Galaxy -1 Minnesota -2 Salt Lake -3 LAFC -6 San Jose -6 Vancouver -6 Dallas -9 Houston -13 Austin -17
Vito is out: covid. At this point either a player had a breakthrough case or the over 90% of players being vaccinated thing is wrong. (It could be less now with hurtado.) Hairston, Francis, and Vito have all had it since May. And room and Mensah are known unvaccinated.
DORA expected to be in effect this Saturday. For review: Outdoor drinking in the approved area from 4:30 (3 hours before kick) until midnight. You need to have the special cup and must finish a drink before going into another establishment.
And while I'm not exactly fluent in the ins and outs of this shit I think that vaccinated or not a known close contact gets you a short quarantine for this very reason.
Road points earned minus home points dropped. Road win = +3 points Road draw = +1 point Road loss = 0 points Home win = 0 points Home draw = -2 points Home loss = -3 points Honestly surprised the Crew is only -5.
