    From ESPNSoccernet:

"Barca will play three games, with fixtures confirmed against the Galaxy on August 1 and the Seattle Sounders on August 5. A third opponent, also expected to be a West Coast club, will be named later."

Has anyone heard any rumor that this third West Coast club may be the Earthquakes ?

I thought they were playing Inter or some other club in SF? There was a topic concerning this a while ago.

    ***Edit***
What I mean is, Barca is playing a Euro club in SF.

The only big club match announced so far for the Bay Area is Inter vs. America at Stanford.

Beat me to it. That's the only international match around here I think we've heard of. Has anyone hear anything about Barca playing the Quakes?

I think Barca qualifies as "good". Even if it's the B or C team.

I hate Barca but I love my Quakes. That means I will be there. Let's see if my Quakes is as bad as my other favorite team Real Madrid. I think if we don't lose 2-6 then we are not too bad.

Oh, please, don't tell me later it is Barca vs another Mexican league team. Sick of it.

I'm thinking that's going to be the case. Quakes haven't played against any of the "major" names, except for Club America at Candlestick back in September 2003!

CD FAS last year was nice but it would be a major shock if the Quakes' opponent was Barcelona. Also won't be at Buck Shaw--put the game, again, at the Stick--wind, cold, crap anemities, and all.

(Of note: rather watch a local team play than Inter/America duel it out at Stanford...)

I don't imaging they'd put the Quakes vs anyone at the Stick. It would either be Oakland or Stanford.

Don Garber makes no mention of a third MLS club taking on Barcelona:

I doubt Barcelona would agree to play at Oakland, so if it even happens it would have to be at Stanford. Somehow, I can see this "west coast" game going to Rio Tinto.

Sure. Eto and Messi are too slow and too easy for Gray and Garcia. Corrales and whoever playing in CM can rander Iniesta and Xavi useless. Don't even worry about that ugly big head named Puyol at the back. Weaver can dribble past him in no time. Denton will also keep Daniel Alves at bay all game long. And Henry who?

I will say Quakes 1 Barca 0. Alvarez dribbles from the left side of the wing to the middle and his righted foot shot beats Valdez easily. It is asisted by Garcia's long ball from the back.

personally I think if Barca play a full squad i'm gonna guess 7 - 0. Because i don't think the Galaxy will touch the ball.

the spanish site mundo deportivo also talks about a third unconfirmed site in the west coast...

    http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/gen/...no-una-gira-americana-por-la-costa-oeste.html

    and the mls site says:

"There will be a third game to conclude the FCB Tour. Details are being finalized and will be announced shortly. The preseason tour was announced today by Major League Soccer (MLS) in conjunction with FC Barcelona and the MLS teams."

    to see the complete article:

    http://web.mlsnet.com/news/mls_news.jsp?ymd=20090507&content_id=249993&vkey=pr_mls&fext=.jsp

hopefully the bay area will host this third game.

Don't count on it, Rio Tinto and Salt Lake will most likely get it :(
And even if the Bay Area gets the last stop it will be Barcelona vs Some mexican team that many of us are tired of.

but market-wise bay area would be bigger but you are right the Quakes arent performing well to merit a match with Barca...but that would have been different with the old Quakes before they became the Dynamo

Well it's not like the Quakes would beat Barca even if we were in first place. Nevermind the Quakes in their current state...

Hell the Galaxy are going to lose bad even if Barca plays their B team.

no MLS team has a chance of beating Barca. If they really want a competitive match they should bring in one of the top teams from the Brazilian or Argentinian League. But we need to consider that this is nothing but an exhibition match with MLS clubs.

A few years ago I went to a double header of Barcelona v Chivas Senior and The Revs v Chivas Junior. They drew 92K, and that year the ticket sale average looked like Chivas Junior actully had fans.

I would not be in favor of sending the Quakes up against a Champions League finalist, but a double header at Oakland could really pad our numbers.

i personally am still hoping our B game is vs. Spurs. But a double header would be good also.
