fyi...if you look at the teams own website & go to their schedule, you can find the game report as well as the box score.... but here it is: CAUTIONS AND EJECTIONS: YC-CSUN #5 (40:18); YC-CSUN #7 (40:18); RC-CSUN #18 (74:17); RC-CSUN #TM (74:17); YC-CSUN #12 (106:46); RC-MD #6 (109:55); RC-CSUN #16 (109:55) http://http://umterps.cstv.com/sports/m-soccer/stats/2007-2008/game14cs.html
On a day when his team signed autographs for the Junior Terps Club after the game, Terp coach Sasho Cirovski was embarrassed with the on-field display. "What was a hard-fought game ... deteriorated into something less than soccer," Cirovski said. "The last few minutes were an embarrassment for all of college soccer." Come on Terps... think about the children!
The fight was started by a member of the Maryland soccer team, I think they were pretty frustrated with the fact that down 10 men CSUN was still very able to contain them and even had the best chance in overtime to win the game hitting the crossbar....
Oh csun was down 10 men from a terrible challenge in front of the maryland bench. The challenge was for sure a red card but if you look at the play that lead up to it, it could of been completely avoided. The player that received the red card was fouled 3 or 4 time without a whistle being blown. It was one of the worst officiating jobs probably in the history of college soccer...
http://gomatadors.olinesports.com/msoccer_bio.php?roster_id=37 Some funny posts coming from someone who also managed to pick a card up in this match. Not to mention, the only time a card was handed out to only one person.
ACC select .........canceled this game ??? Did Sasha have it canceled because of fight or was it canceled before the game was played??
Apparently you may not get to many of these games? I certainly don't get to see all that many, but from both in-person and televised adventures it sure appears that the ACC and notably Maryland could regularly vie for that (OK - or almost any game our favorite team did not win...). The coaches (with a special nod toward Sasho on this part) seem to be real pros at working the refs. We all know it's probably part of the job but some (Sasho, again?) seem to go over the top to the point of being really classless at times. At least his players used to understand the bigger picture and more than once showed more class than the coach, but a side effect of a coach screaming at the ref all game (other than more than once getting the calls he wants later in the game...) is that it occasionally also distracts and/or helps incite other stuff out on the field (you know - out in that sea of testosterone). Not saying that happened in this game (had to work so couldn't partake) but after watching the Sasho show I can't say I'm really all that surprised. This fine karma probably does come back to bite 'em, 'cause once away from home (and their friendly home calls) the ACC just doesn't seem to travel all that well, do they?
