And as propagandist Classic Dom's contribution to Brexit shows, it is much easier to be a wrecker than a builder.
The irony being that the conservative press has long referred to the left's "the grievance culture." I guess those people don't have mirrors.
Yeah, like the common joke about college kids majoring in "Grievance Studies." And yet, . . . Trump rallies are nothing if they aren't orgies of grievance.
The entirety of Puerto Rico lost power due to Hurricane Fiona, yet I have seen nothing but coverage of a funeral for Queen Elizabeth II. A travesty. pic.twitter.com/Bn5ugQH1Ff— Frederick Joseph (@FredTJoseph) September 19, 2022

Not all the Italian in the forum are happy… WTF framing, NYT? “Not all are happy”? “Some fear”? She’s literally the heir of fascism, an openly white supremacist politician. Yes, she’s also a woman. That doesn’t make it a toss-up. pic.twitter.com/02vYn3cPAR— Jeff Sharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2022
Great thread: Which Democrats are too woke? Too woke how, exactly? Is there any legislation one could point to? What, precisely, is the Democratic Party actually doing that it shouldn’t? We never get any proper answers, the “too woke” critique remains entirely unsubstantiated. pic.twitter.com/3PpV1FpmLo— Thomas Zimmer (@tzimmer_history) September 23, 2022 There is also an ideological dimension, a widespread reactionary sensibility. “All they do is talk about bathrooms” is not really an empirical claim, but primarily an ideological statement of preference and intent that translates to: “They care too much about the wrong people.”— Thomas Zimmer (@tzimmer_history) September 23, 2022 It is not the result of an actual empirical analysis, of an honest assessment of what the Democratic Party is and isn’t doing, but instead builds on a vague sense that things are changing too fast and that the “wrong” people are in charge of where the country is going.— Thomas Zimmer (@tzimmer_history) September 23, 2022 Anti-“wokeism” is a reactionary moral panic that builds a permission structure for people across the political spectrum to make common cause with the anti-democratic Right – or, at the very least, stifles the response to the assault on multiracial, pluralistic democracy.— Thomas Zimmer (@tzimmer_history) September 23, 2022
This is an not entirely inaccurate critique of progressive cultural criticism. But it does not apply to the political sphere. In politics, the GOP is the party that introduces bathroom bills, not the Democrats.
My question is this. Did she commit misprision of a felony by failing to report his admission of a felony?— 🇺🇦🔋Chris Robertson🔋🇺🇦 (@DesignClimate) September 28, 2022 1575149521709207552 is not a valid tweet id
Rising crime, huh? According to FBI crime estimates released today, "violent crime" decreased 1% in 2021 and "property crime" decreased 3.8%. Every media outlet should ask itself if this is the impression it gave with its volume of crime coverage and choices of anecdotes.— Alec Karakatsanis (@equalityAlec) October 5, 2022
Well, thanks to omnipresent surveillance, both in the forms of security video and DIY surveillance from cellhones, there are wayyyyyyyyy more visual records of things like anti-Asian attacks at ATMs or mobs looting drugstores and convenience stores, etc. That's going to get clicks online, and since it takes up two-three minutes of a local newscast, it's a gift to the producers as well. Obviously, there are problems: increasing visual recordings of crime might look like there is an increasing occurance if crime when their might not be. But hey, it's currency in the attention economy.
Anecdotal evidence: I got a Ring Camera to replace my old doorbell camera which some kid or careless delivery person broke. For ring to work, you have to get a subscription but it gives you access to safety reports from your neighborhood (you can adjusted with the minimum radius being 5 miles). Awesome right? Well, we rediscovered that people is crazy, paranoid and crave for immediate reactions. Some people think that every move in camera has to be reported to the community, and there's many people that want their neighbors to have ESP powers. "Oh look a nasty looking man is walking their dogs every morning at 5 am!! Anyone knows why there's an ambulance turning into the condo around my block? Has anyone seen my cat?" Yeah, some crime is captured, but 90% of the activity on the app is pure overreaction. You can adjust reports and minimize the reports on your phone, but OMG, what a can of worms.
Yeah, same with that Nextdoor social media thing that connects people in a neighborhood. I joined one for a brief time until it became obvious people are basically whacko and suspicious of the slightest thing/person that appears “different”.
Our community had a chapter there (or was it Neighbors?), and there were a couple ladies that complained about the trees behind our development dropping too many leaves and needles, and another checking for feedback on every little critter crawling on her property. The high point during the months we were in there, was some guy who roasted all the people who wanted to use what at that point was an undeveloped lot as a parking/storage for their vehicles, without even consulting with the owner; it was epic.
I registered for NextDoor for approximately 2 days until I realized my neighbors did nothing but complain. One person complained that someone was letting their dog trample their new sod and posted their ring camera video as proof. It ended up being someone letting their 20 lb dog walk next to them in their yard, since there was no room on the sidewalk. Usually, the topics on Next Door go something like this: Neighbor 1: Does anyone recommend a good exterminator? I found a copperhead a quarter mile away from my house. Neighbor 2: What is wrong with you?!?!?!? Release it back into the wild!! Neighbor 3: I don't think they are holding onto it. Just kill it!!! Neighbor 2: You're wrong and going to hell!! Neighbor 3: I hope you die a painful death!!! Neighbor 2: Are you the one that feeds the fox with mange!?!?! chaos ensues <plot twist> the picture of the snake posted was a Northern Black Racer </plot twist> end scene
Not sure if vigilante neighbors are more dangerous than actual criminals. Maybe. It's a close-run thing.
