GENERALÍSIMO CUP

El Real Madrid, el Atlético de Bilbao y el Barcelona fueron rápidamente eliminados por Celta, Valencia y Español, respectivamente, en los octavos de final. Por su parte, el Atlético Aviación seguía en buena forma y derrotaba al Betis por un total de 13 – 2 en el global de la eliminatoria, en la cual Campos y Pruden seguían hinchándose a meter goles.


Una de las grandes sorpresas de cuartos de final fue la eliminación del Atlético Aviación por parte de la Real Sociedad en un partido vuelta con dos ausencias muy importantes: Gabilondo y Campos. El Valencia no tuvo ninguna dificultad para eliminar al Sevilla, gracias a un 8-1 en el primer partido, con cuatro goles de Mundo. 3 partidos necesitó el Español para eliminar al Levante, pues los dos primeros acabaron con empate a 0.


En semifinales, 6-0 del Español a la Real Sociedad con acierto de los extremos y gran juego de Teruel y Rovira. En la otra eliminatoria el Valencia se deshace del Celta con dos victorias (1 – 2 y 4 – 0).


En la final, Valencia 3 – Español 1. Bien Mundo y los interiores del Valencia, desaparecidos los extremos, según “La Vanguardia”; sin embargo, Marca valora muy positivamente la labor de los dos extremos valencianistas... Muy luchador Rovira por los blanquiazules. Teruel fracasó en algunas crónicas… pero jugó bien en otras…

Gracias a que Eduardo Teus, seleccionador nacional, era también colaborador de “Marca”, podemos saber de primera mano los estados de forma de los principales jugadores de cara a su participación en la selección española. Algún periodista “se atrevió” a llevar la contraria al seleccionador con otras propuestas, aunque no existen grandes diferencias entre sus opiniones.

Sin ser jugadores de calidad excepcional, la portería y el puesto de defensa derecho podrían ser ocupados por dos jugadores del Español, la joven promesa Trías, y Teruel. Respecto a este último, aunque Mieza le quita el puesto de la selección nacional, seguramente el españolista, prototipo de la furia, pero noble y espectacular en sus acciones fuera mejor que el vasco, al menos reúne más reseñas de su buen juego. En la izquierda, un elemento seguro como el bilbaíno Oceja, ante un aspirante como Juan Ramón. Gabilondo se me antoja el mejor para el puesto de medio derecho con la duda de si Zubieta hubiera sido superior a él, con Rovira en el centro en lugar de un irregular Germán, ambos de características diferentes, mucho más seguro en tareas defensivas el infatigable mediocentro del Español. Por la izquierda Ipiña, cuya posición habitual era la de mediocentro, pero que se podría adaptar perfectamente a estar en un costado (de hecho ahí jugó con España) y tener otro hombre de buen toque en la línea media. El rápido y hábil Epi como extremo derecho, sin ninguna duda. Para el puesto de interior derecho, tuve muchas dudas entre Herrerita (genial e individualista) y Arencibia (pausado y científico como se decía antiguamente), pero me decidí por el primero cuya clase, a decir de los comentarios y las crónicas de la época, era excepcional. Campanal, quizá, fuera el delantero centro más completo que jugaba en España, pero a lo largo de la temporada fue perdiendo fuelle y ganando peso; el fin de temporada de Mundo, con su eficacia goleadora y gran juego en la final de Copa, le hace acreedor de ser el mejor ariete de la liga española, si bien, en global, pienso que Lángara habría de ser superior, con una categoría contrastada a nivel internacional. En el interior izquierdo, no tengo ninguna duda: Campos, luchador, técnico, inteligente y con facilidad goleadora, tal vez, también, el número 1 en la liga española. Escolá parece que “va y viene”, pero no demuestra una regularidad. Y a pesar de que su veterenía le impedía correr con la velocidad de otros tiempos, ningún extremo izquierdo, ni siquiera Vázquez o Mas, eran superiores a Gorostiza, quien en momentos concretos bajaba a la defensa a ayudar a sus compañeros.

The only thing that catches my attention is the match held just after the league between the national team and the Castilla team, which ended with the victory of the former by 2 goals to 1, with Gárate and Epi scoring for the "nationals" and Campos for the Castilians. The Castilian team was made up of Athletic Aviación and Madrid players: Tabales; Mardones, Quincoces; Lecue, Germán, Ipiña; Enrique, Alonso, Elícegui, Campos and Vázquez. Tan solo me llama la atención el partido celebrado nada más acabar la liga entre la selección nacional y la selección de Castilla, saldado con la victoria de los primeros por 2 goles a 1, marcando Gárate y Epi por los “nacionales” y Campos por los castellanos. El combinado castellano lo formaron jugadores del Athletic Aviación y del Madrid: Tabales; Mardones, Quincoces; Lecue, Germán, Ipiña; Enrique, Alonso, Elícegui, Campos y Vázquez. Respecto al combinado del resto de España, fueron convocados: Nogués, Pérez, Juan Ramón, Maciá, Bertolí, Soladrero, Blanco, Ibarra, Doménech, Jorge, Mundo, Herrerita, Gorostiza y Vergara. El “Mundo Deportivo” señala que Campanal y Raimundo estaban, en principio, en la lista, pero resultaron algo lesionados y la participación en este partido estaría en peligro. Y efectivamente no jugó ninguno de los dos sevillistas. Este partido se organizó en homenaje al seleccionador nacional Amadeo García Salazar y serviría de prueba a futuros internacionales. Se decía sobre alguno de esos jugadores que Quincoces ya no podía hacer alardes físicos, pero sí había ganado en colocación; de Germán, que era el mejor mediocentro de España, de Ipiña y Lecue de destaca su juego fino y cerebral. De Alonso se habla de su mala suerte al resultar lesionado al principio de la temporada y que, al igual que Vázquez tienen que demostrar su calidad. Del resto de la delantera se menciona que ha sido uno de los más destacados de su equipo. En la víspera del partido se anuncian algunos cambios en el combinado del resto de España, adelantando como posible formación: Pérez; Joaquín, Juan Ramón; Bertolí, Soladrero, Franco; Epi, Jorge, Mundo, Gárate y Gorostiza. Herrerita y Nogués también se quedarían fuera por lesión.


Finalmente, las formaciones que se adelantaron se confirmaron. La crónica del partido es bastante destallada, haciendo hincapié en la superioridad del cominado del resto de España durante la primera parte, con superioridad de la línea media (Germán y Lecue hacen aguas) y de la delantera donde se destaca sobre todo a Gorostiza, autor del pase del primer gol a Gárate. Tabales tiene que trabajar muchísimo ante el contínuo ataque de sus rivales. En la segunda parte, Ibarra sustituye a Franco, Maciá a Joaquín y Vergara a Gárate. Por Castilla, Arencibia sustituye a Lecue y Esquiva a Tabales, que es despedido con una gran ovación. Después del gol de Epi, reaccionan los castellanos, con magníficas jugadas de Campos, que sería el que acorta distancias, quedando más de un cuarto de hora en el que el combinado castellano aprieta, disponiendo Elícegui de una gran ocasión que desperdicia y luciéndose Pérez ante los peligrosos disparos de Campos.


He insistido mucho en este partido ya que, a falta de partidos de la selección nacional, creo que puede aclararme algo en la elección de jugadores de esta temporada.

El Athlétic Aviación ganó la liga con 29 puntos. En dicho partido, dos goles de Enrique y otro de Vázquez otorgan al equipo madrileño el derecho a jugar en la primera división. El equipo comienza la liga en el medio de la tabla, pero una gran segunda vuelta le encarama a la primera posición. Es difícil elegir el mejor del equipo entre Campos y Germán. Este último jugó todo el campeonato como mediocentro, aunque en la práctica se incrustaba entre los dos laterales; respecto a Campos, no pudo jugar hata la 6ª jornada, pero a partir de ahí no faltó nunca, para marcar 9 goles, la mayoría de ellos en partidos trascendentales en el último tramo de liga. De ahí que me decanto por éste como el hombre más importante del equipo. Pero no fueron los únicos, los dos extremos, Vázquez y Enrique, quien además consiguió 11 goles estuvieran a buena altura, al igual que el portero Tabales, quién se hizo acreedor de numerosos elogios por parte de la prensa, y el veterano delantero centro Elícegui.


El Sevilla acabó a un solo punto. Siguió en la buena forma con la que había ganado la primera Copa del Generalísimo y se plantó líder en la última jornada. Si el Athlétic Aviación cumplía con su obligación y ganaba al Valencia (cosa que hizo), los sevillanos también debían hacer lo propio. Jugaron en el campo del Hércules y llegaron a vencer por 2 a 3, pero Vilanova, que también había marcado los otros dos, marcó el tercero e impidió el triungo liguero de los andaluces. Se hablaba del buen juego del Sevilla que tenía en Campanal y en Raimundo a sus mejores artilleros, con 17 y 15 goles respectivamente. Su defensa derecho Joaquín era un muro defensivo y Torróntegui, unas veces medio derecho y otras, interior por el mismo costado, era otro de sus mejores elementos.


Tercero, a 3 puntos, el Athlétic de Bilbao, que tuvo en el lado izquierdo del ataque con Gárate y Gorostiza, este con 16 goles, a sus mejores jugadores. El veterano delantero centro Unamuno, que antes de fichar por los bilbaínos, compró su libertad al Betis, fue el mejor goleador del equipo y de todo el campeonato con 20 goles.

El Hércules fue una de las sorpresas del primer tercio de liga, no en vano, en la 7ª jornada iba en cabeza del campeonato con su ariete Vilanova como máximo goleador con 13 goles. Coincidiendo con la sequía goleadora de éste, el equipo fue bajando lugares, aunque recuperó el tino en el último partido y, con sus tres goles privó al Sevilla de ganar la liga. Además de Vilanova, el portero Pérez fue el mejor, encajando “solo” 30 goles en 20 partidos


El Zaragoza acabó a 8 puntos del Athletic Aviación, pero, al igual que el Hércules comenzó el campeonato de forma fulgurante llegando líder tras disputarse 6 jornadas. Sus dos mejores jugadores fueron los dos que el Oviedo cedió al no poder disputar la competición: Antón, que lo mismo podía jugar con ariete que como interior, y Soladrero, uno de los mejores mediocentros de España.


Con los mismos puntos que el Zaragoza terminó el Valencia, en el que dos vascos, Mundo y Juan Ramón, sobresalían, cada uno en su cometido, el primero marcando goles (hizo 15) y el segundo, como, posiblemente, el mejor defensa izquierdo del país.


El Barcelona acabó 9º, muy lejos de los primeros lugares, a pesar de las incorporaciones de los ovetenses Herrerita y Emilín, que fueron sus mejores goleadores con 8 y 5 tantos respectivamente. Pero quizá, el jugador clave del equipo fuera su guardamente Nogués, quien con sus paradas evitó que las cosas hubieran sido aún peores.

COPA DEL GENERALÍSIMO


Unamuno continuaba en su vena de aciertos y en primera ronda marcó 5 goles al Alavés (3 en la ida y 2 en la vuelta).


En octavos de final, El Español se deshizo con facilidad del Celta, siendo Martínez Catalá el goleador de la eliminatoria, con 4 goles. El Hércules dio la sorpresa eliminando al Athlétic de Bilbao, que con un 5-2 en Alicante (4 goles de Vilanova) dejaba la eliminatoria muy de cara. En el derby sevillano, emoción y el pase a la siguiente fase para el Sevilla. El campeón de liga es eliminado por el Zaragoza (destacándose la soberbia labor de Soladrero )que ya había dado una buena impresión en liga.


En cuartos de final pasan el Español a costa del Barcelona, el Valencia, eliminando al Hércules, el Real Madrid que elimina al Rácing de Santánder y el Zaragoza que remonta el resultado adverso contra el Sevilla. Alday fue el héroe de la eliminatoria al conseguir 4 de los 5 goles de los madrileños.


Dos goles de Martínez Catalá (ambos en sendos centros de Mas) y otro de Gonzalvo I, sirvieron para la victoria de 3-1 del Español ante el Valencia. El el segundo partido, el Valencia tuvo la mala suerte de la lesión de su portero; al no existir las sustituciones, tuvo que jugar con uno menos y un jugador de campo en la portería, razón por la cual el gol inicial de Mundo no sirvió de mucho contra los de Martínez Catalá y Gonzalvo. En la otra eliminatoria, el Madrid ganó al Zaragoza 1-0 en la capital de España y empata en el partido de vuelta. Alday marcó los goles del Madrid.


Previa a la final, “El Mundo Deportivo” hace un breve análisis jugador por jugador, con algunos datos relevantes para mi propósito: Alonso: la revelación de la temporada; Lecue, completo, pero irregular; Teruel, brillante por la derecha o por la izquierda; Mas: jugador muy completo; Jorge: destacó hasta el punto de llamar la atención del seleccionador.


La final la jugaron, por tanto, el Madrid y el Español. Fue un partido bueno y jugado con nobleza por ambas partes. Empieza adelantándose el Madrid por mediación de Alonso, pero el Español remonta con dos goles de Martínez Catalá, otra vez en centros del extremo Mas. Muy al final del partido, Alday sella la igualada, tuviéndose que jugar una prórroga, en la que Mas, en jugada personal, desempata dando el título al Español. Por el Madrid se destaca a Quincoces


El máximo goleador de la competición fue el delantero centro del Madrid, Alday, con 13 goles en 8 partidos.

As said at the beginning, poor quality season with few men of class and important category. The first place in the ranking is very clear to me; It cannot be other than Lángara, author of 33 goals in the Argentine league, although this season I will not place him in the “international class” step, since his team did not pass the 9th place. Como se dijo al principio, temporada de poca calidad con pocos hombres de clase y categoría importante. El primer puesto del ránking lo tengo muy claro; no puede ser otro que Lángara, autor de 33 goles en la liga argentina, si bien, en esta temporada no lo colocaré en el escalón de “clase internacional” pues su equipo no pasó del 9º lugar. El resto de los que mencione tienen los méritos más parejos, aunque sobre ellos quiero destacar al joven y brillante interior sevillista Raimundo.

In goal, the doubt was between Pérez and Nogués, but the better personal and collective record of the former makes me lean towards that of Hercules. En la portería, la duda era entre Pérez y Nogués, pero el mejor registro personal y colectivo del primero hace que me incline por el del Hércules. No parece haber grandes figuras entre los defensas, por lo que, en virtud de lo leído me decido por los dos que cito, aunque ya empieza a hablarse de las buenas aptitudes de Oceja o de Teruel. En el centro del campo, intuyo que los mejores fueron Germán y Soladrero, pero dado que ambos eran mediocentros me decidí por Germán, por escaso margen. A su lado, pienso que Torrontegui e Ipiña fueron los mejores; en este curso no he podido comprobar que Zubieta sobresaliera especialmente en Argentina y por eso lo obvio. En la delantera, el ariete es muy evidente, Lángara; muchos delanteros centros sobaban para un posible puesto en el equipo nacional, con Campanal y Mundo muy igualados, con otros como Martínez Catalá, Alday o Vilanova que hicieron una eficaz campaña, pero ninguno de ellos podría hacer sombra a Lángara. Históricamente, los interiores talentosos han abundado en España, y esta temporada no es una excepción. He puesto a dos jóvenes, Chus Alonso y Raimundo, pero Campos estuvo casi a su altura. Otros como Jorge, Herrerita, Gárate, Lecue y Pepillo tuvieron buenas actuaciones, dentro de, como se dijo, la pobre tónica general. En el extremo derecho, Enrique y Gorostiza se me antojan los mejores, con una mayor calidad en la izquierda, pues otros como Vázquez, Mas y Emilín también lo hicieron aceptablemente.

Sí, he leído sobre ello. En los años de la guerra un grupo de futbolistas españoles (vascos la mayoría) iniciaron una gira por Europa que después les llevó a América, algunos de los cuales pasó mucho tiempo allí y otros se asentaron definitivamente.

En esta temporada, Lángara y Zubieta estaban muy asentados en su equipo, pero Cilaurren, Areso o Iraragorri tuvieron muy poca presencia en Argentina. Otros jugaban la liga mexicana con mayor o menos suerte...

 

De momento, sobre la liga de México, solo tengo esta información. No sé si tú sabes de alguna otra fuente. En mi post sobre los mejores jugadores españoles, destaqué alguna labor individual de Martín Vantolrá a principios de los 40, basándome solo en lo que he podido leer en la web que te señalo. A mí me encantaría obtener algo más de información sobre estos jugadores, pero no es fácil de momento.

1938-39

Spain is still at war until the first day of April the end of the armed conflict becomes official. The league is still suspended and only the Spanish Cup championship can be rescued, which will be renamed the Generalissimo Cup.

What did resume was the regional championships in those territories where circumstances allowed it. The best of each championship would play the newly created Generalissimo Cup.

Among these teams, one with military origin stood out, the National Aviation, which, due to its headquarters in Zaragoza, participated and won the Aragon Championship, beating Zaragoza in the final. In this team, which was key for Athletic de Madrid to continue in the world of football, under the name of Athletic Aviación, there were Guillermo, Mesa, Aparicio, Germán, Sañudo, Machín (then known as Machorro), Vázquez ... many of which were very important in the following triumphant years of Athletic Aviation. Athletic Bilbao won Vizcaya ahead of Oriamendi de Baracaldo. Already in the Argentine championship of 1939, Cilaurren did not have much prominence in River Plate, where he played 12 of the 34 league games to reach the sub-championship. It was worse for Iraragorri, who only played 4 games for San Lorenzo, where Zubieta and Lángara were consecrated. Zubieta participated as a starter in most of the matches and Lángara scored 34 goals in the 25 matches in which he played. Both Lángara and Zubieta were surprised at the high level of the Argentine league, even thinking that they could not be up to the task. They were wrong. It is true that the Argentine league began a month and a half before the end of the Mexican one, which explains why their appearances would have been so low. In the case of Lángara, he made his debut on matchday 10 with a 4-2 win over River Plate and scoring all his team's goals. Better start, impossible. Later he did not miss the appointment in any game. San Lorenzo finished in 5th position.

In France, Balmanya, Raich and Zabalo were playing, the latter in a very notable way, becoming on the starting list for the Rest of Europe match against England.

España sigue en guerra hasta que el primer día de abril se oficializa el final del conflicto armado. La liga continúa suspendida y tan solo puede rescatarse el campeonato de Copa de España que pasará a denominarse Copa del Generalísimo.


Lo que sí se reanudaron fue los campeonatos regionales en aquellos territorios en los que las circunstancias lo permitieron. Los mejores de cada campeonato jugarían la recién creada Copa del Generalísimo.


Entre estos equipos destacaba uno con origen militar, el Aviación Nacional, que por tener su sede en Zaragoza participó y ganó el Campeonato de Aragón venciendo en la final al Zaragoza. En este equipo, que fue clave en que el Athletic de Madrid siguiera en el mundo del fútbol, bajo el nombre de Athletic Aviación, figuraban entre otros Guillermo, Mesa, Aparicio, Germán, Sañudo, Machín (entonces conocido por Machorro), Vázquez… muchos de los cuales fueron muy importantes en los siguientes años triunfantes del Athletic Aviación. A última hora se incorporó al equipo uno de los mejores interiores españoles de la posguerra, Campos. El Zaragoza también tenía algunos futbolistas destacados como Soladrero, Gabilondo, Amestoy y Olivares, que con 8 goles en 5 partidos fue el goleador del torneo.


Los únicos equipos que disputaron el Campeonato de Galicia fueron el Rácing de Ferrol (que ganó) y el Deportivo de la Coruña (con los veteranos Chacho e Hilario y el jovencísimo portero Acuña). El Racing de Santander no lo tuvo nada fácil para ganar el campeonato de Cantabria al encontrar un fuerte oponente en el Unión Montañesa.


El Athletic de Bilbao ganó el de Vizcaya por delante del Oriamendi de Baracaldo. Como hombres más conocidos del Athletic, Gorostiza (que jugó casi siempre de extremo derecho), con 7 goles en 8 partidos, Gaínza (4 goles) y Macala (5 goles). Por Oriamendi, Oceja y Ortúzar atendían la zona trasera del campo y el delantero centro Bata que marcó 13 goles en los 8 partidos que disputó. Un joven Zarra marcó 5 goles como delantero centro del Erandio.


El Donostia (Real Sociedad) se hizo con el de Guipúzcoa en fuerte competencia con el Alavés. Solo perdieron el partido que jugaron entre sí. En el Donostia destacaba su portero Ignacio Eizaguirre, Paco Bienzobas (11 goles en 9 partidos), Epi (11 goles en 10 partidos) y Zaldúa II (16 goles). En el Alavés, grandes figuras como Ciriaco y Quincoces, que jugaron la mayor parte del campeonato, Fede, Iriondo (11 goles en 10 partidos) y Gárate (10 goles en 9 partidos). Capítulo aparte para su delantero centro Elícegui, que anotó 24 goles en los 10 partidos del campeonato.


El Osasuna ganó fácilmente el campeonato de Navarra y empate entre el Betis y el Sevilla por el camponato andaluz, que se decidió para el Sevilla por gol average.


Durante el otoño de 1938 se disputó el Torneo Ciudad de Barcelona, lo más parecido a un campeonato regional, que no llegó a finalizar por el recrudecimiento de la guerra en la ciudad Condal.


El diciembre de este año la selección nacional se enfrentó y ganó al Donostia por 1 – 4 con la siguiente alineación: Zamora; Ciriaco, Quincoces; Gabilondo, Ipiña, Muñoz; Olaso, Iriondo, Olivares, Vergara y Gorostiza. Otra fuente cita a Amestoy y no a Luis Olaso, asegurando que no fue por el estadio o al menos no fue fotografiado. Por el Donostia estaban Eizaguirre, Paco Bienzobas y Epi. Vergara en dos ocasiones, Gorostiza y Olivares marcaron por el combinado nacional. Curiosamente, Zamora se lesiona, pasando a la portería Quincoces. Más tarde saldría Mardones, permaneciendo Quincoces en la portería. Los hombres más destacados del partido fueron Gorostiza, Ciriaco, Gabilondo, Ipiña, Vergara, Eizaguirre y Epi. Se había previsto un enfrentamiento con Portugal que no llegó a producirse.


Me ha llamado también la atención el doble partido amistoso entre las selecciones de Vizcaya y las de Guipúzcoa, con triunfo en ambos encuentros de los guipuzcoanos. Los vizcaínos contaban entre sus filas a Ortúzar, Oceja, Bata, Urra y Gorostiza. Los donostiarras, a Eizaguirre, Ciriaco, Epi, Gárate, Elícegui y Paco Bienzobas, entre otros.


Hubo un puñado de jugadores españoles que pudieron disputar campeonatos de liga en otros países. Fue el caso de los futbolistas que habían salido de España y formaron la selección vasca y que pudieron intergrarse en la Liga Mayor de México compitiendo con la denominación Club Deportivo Euzkadi. De hecho estuvieron a punto de hacerse con el campeonato que lo perdieron en la última jornada en beneficio del Asturias. En aquel Euzkadi jugaban los hermanos Regueiro (Luis y Pedro), Lángara, Aedo, Cilaurren, Muguerza, Iraragorri, Larrinaga… Blasco, Cilaurren (al principio jugado de defensa derecho, luego de medio izquierdo), Muguerza y Lángara, que se convirtió en el ídolo de la afición mexicana (debutó con 3 goles) jugaron todos los partidos (12). Luis Regueiro (7 goles) y Aedo jugaron 10 partidos, Larrínaga interviene en 9 (7 goles), al igual que Emilín (8 goles) y Zubieta (tras la 9ª jornada se marcha a jugar al San Lorenzo). Por razones que desconozco, Iraragorri no debuta hasta la penúltima jornada, marcando un gol en este y en el siguiente partido. Al final de esta temporada se disgrega el grupo y algunos se quedan en México, como Larrinaga, los Regueiro, Aedo y Blasco, mientras que Iraragorri, Emilín Alonso, Zubieta y Lángara fichan por el San Lorenzo de Almagro y Cilaurren por el River Plate. Otro español, Miguel Gual fue el máximo goleador del campeonato quedándose Lángara con 19, a uno del “pichichi”. Y Vantolrá era otra de las figuras en la liga mexicana.


Ya en el campeonato argentino de 1939, Cilaurren no tuvo mucho protagonismo en el River Plate, donde jugó 12 de los 34 partidos de liga para alcanzar el subacampeonato. Peor le fue a Iraragorri, que solo jugó 4 partidos para San Lorenzo, donde sí se consagraron Zubieta y Lángara. Zubieta participó como titular el la mayor parte de los partidos y Lángara marcó 34 goles en los 25 partidos en los que jugó. Tanto Lángara como Zubieta se sorprendieron del alto nivel de la liga argentina, pensando, incluso, que no podrían estar a la altura. Se equivocaron. Cierto es que la liga argentina comenzó un mes y medio antes de finalizar la mejicana, lo que explica que sus apariciones hubieran sido tan bajas. En el caso de Lángara, debutó en la 10ª jornada con victoria por 4 a 2 ante el River Plate y marcando todos los goles de su equipo. Mejor comienzo, imposible. Después no faltó a la cita en ningún partido. San Lorenzo acabó en 5ª posición.


En Francia se hallaban jugando Balmanya, Raich y Zabalo, este último de forma muy notable, llegando a estar en la lista inicial para el partido del Resto de Europa contra Inglaterra.
