    The Article

Beautiful. People whose family converted 50 years ago are telling people whose ancestors have been Anglican for centuries they understand the Bible better.

If a Pope and an Anti-Pope shook hands, both would be destroyed in a gigantic explosion that would destroy most of the world.

That is pretty frightening, but I fear we'll never see the halcyon days of papal pornocracy when a 19 year old was elected pope. Ahh, John XII. Died in the arms of his mistress. Now THERE was a Pope.

Curious... who's on which side? The African churches who've been leading the charge? The Archbishop of Canterbury who was so much more vocally supportive of the American and Canadian stance until he was appointed to that position? The American church which dates from the 1780s?

My personal favorite was always the moment when there were three Popes. One of them was elected because at the moment when the new Pope was to be ordained, he grabbed the Papal vestments and showed himself as Pope. When they were grabbed from him, he produced a set he had smuggled in himself, ran out, and proceeded to gain recognition from most of Germany. Pete would be proud.

    I'll nominate Alexander VI.
Such a fine patron of the arts.
    He was tough on crime.
Gave the Jews from Spain their own special place to call home.
Loyal to his bastard children. Something not seen in this day and age.
I don't understand why he has not been beatified yet.

I hear his son was quite The Prince too.

Which is why idiot evangelicals who want to see the church return to its early roots need look no further than Chaldean or Syrian church. I mean, these guys' ancestors did hear the man speak and he did preach in their language.

ITN: Do me a favor. Attend mass this Sunday at the National Cathedral. Then let me know if you're still concerned about what happens to the Episcopal Church. :)

He also drew the line that demarcated Spanish/Portuguese possessions in the new world, thanks to the treaty of Tordesillas. Ever wondered why it was so generous to Spain? Might have something to do with Alex's original name - Borja. That's right, he was Spanish, and his great nephew went on to become the second in command of the Jesuits.

SObearCAL=> I was only commenting on the sad fact that homosexuality seems to be causing so many problems...you'd think they could keep it in their pants, so to speak.

You should read The March of Folly by Barbara Tuchman. It includes a whole section on the Renaissance Popes.

How did an Anglican Church issue quickly turn into an anti-Catholic thread?

It makes me believe the Anglican Church is insignificantly not worthy of discussion. It also makes me realize the indirect inward fear people have about the Catholic Church and it's importance. It's also ironic how some here will cry "ignorance" and "anti-xyz" to those against homosexuality, but yet they themselves do bashing and anti-speech against the Catholic Church. I also realize.... ah nevermind, stupidity will always reign in this forum.

Just the impression I get from roaming around here..
