She prefers that it would be shut in her face?

As a side note, about half of all women under the age 40 let the door fly into my face after they walk through. That doesn't much happen to me with either men of all ages or older women. Also, young black women. They are invariably polite.

    These guys have a sequel.

They make a very interesting analogy to a disputed election in France in 1934 that I have never heard of. They think we are failing the test if consequences for those who try to coup. Sobering stuff. CNN giving the book this kind of treatment is another data point that the media is waking up to the stakes in 2024. It’s getting more and more common that mainstream people and outlets are in “This is not a drill!” mode.

They’re just laying the groundwork of excuses as to why they can abuse their power like the FBI did with Crossfire Hurricane.

All the while neglecting to think even a few steps down the chess board. Those same types of excuses have led directly to the current state of affairs in the United States where federal employees have turned us into a third-world sh*thole country that is in extremely rapid decline.

Can't remember where it was being discussed but...remember when Walgreens said they were closing stores and losing tens of billions to organized retail gangs? And 15,000 other retailers, via a lobby, said the same and pushed Congress to pass tougher law enforcement laws? And Florida did and Gavin said they needed to pass tougher laws?

Yeah they made all that ***** up.

    https://ritholtz.com/2023/12/retail-lobby-we-lied-about-organized-theft/

They exaggerated the claim ten fold.

Late stage capitalism, corporate class working with the State to crack down on the proletariat (classic fascism).

They just flat out lied and relied on one guy's "analysis" that no one can verify for all that. Just to make a few extra bucks.

    Nice.

I wonder what would happen if there was an organized resistance in NC and some of these State Legislators just started disappearing.

Their complaint appears to be that if you tell douchebags that they're douchebags and you're going to treat them like douchbags, it's a criminal conspiracy against said douchebags.

Seems simple to solve-- federalize those units and direct them to restrain themselves from interfering.

If they are so carefully selected as to obey the governors and not the law, then the governors and the units are clearly insurrectionist, and the governors no longer in office as a consequence. So saith the amendment currently under examination.

But a Guard unit-- or even a regular army unit-- is not a "Risk" token which will just do as it is told-- it is a body of actual people who will make up their own minds what they can and should do. If even 15% of them disagree with the legality of their orders, the unit is probably useless for the purpose.

If 15% conclude they should not obey, probably 30% had to talk themselves into obedience; another 5 or 10% will be out and out cowards, and 5% recalcitrant by nature. It is very hard to get soldiers to turn on any large number of men they have trained with. And then remember, historically 50% of green troops will run at first fire, 70% will shoot over the heads of an advancing enemy, 100% of troops facing an enemy directly will not answer fire from the oblique. Soldiers have guns, but they do not behave like they are guns-- you don't just pull their triggers.

Movies have trained us to see armies as monolithic instruments of force to be used as their officers whimsey takes them-- but in fact they are very stubborn and recalcitrant and inefficient leviathans unless awfully carefully selected and weeded and trained.

This is getting crazier....If the red states want to secede, I am all for it....

Salt Lake Tribune: “A bill creating a process to give legislators the power to order state officials and agencies to ignore federal laws and regulations was approved by the Utah House of Representatives on Friday.”

“The House passage follows Gov. Spencer Cox’s endorsement of Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott’s decision to defy the Supreme Court and supplant federal authority over the southern border.”

I'm guessing the border is the excuse, but this goes much deeper. I imagine a backdrop to this is their fear of Democrats winning and making abortion legal nationwide. And then there is marriage equality, which they oppose and want to take away.

They hope such laws will allow them to ignore whatever they disagree with. Of course, with the current Supreme Court we can't rule anything out.

    There’s a list:
    • Public Ed
    • Federal lands
    • Abortion
    • LGBT+ (sports, bathrooms, healthcare)
    • Guns
    • Water
    • Air pollution
They’ve got a supermajority and are pissy about the feds influence. Of those 60% that show up to vote, more than half are reliably GOP voters, no matter how awful they are.

The way I look at it, it's the usual peacocking and fundraising from the GOP.

If the possibility of losing federal money happened, they'd all be crying foul. Lot of the GOP folks may have voted against Biden's plans but they sure as hell took the money when it came to them.
