Went down to visit the BK next door to my work for lunch today, saw a poster in the window advertising a contest to win a trip to the final and a chance to take a shot on goal for a nice USD$100,000. On the advert were 4 MLS players. Two from Chivas (Guzan & someone else), one from Dallas and one from the Galaxy.

Pretty nifty. Their small print for the contest says if you've ever played pro, semi-pro, high school (varsity, JV, freshman), or have coached any of the above you're not eligable.

Well that about eliminates 95% of the fans over 13 that will be at the game.

It's not enough that they can take out an insurance policy on these giveaways...

...Now they are going to have Stephen Hawkings taking the kick

The Weather Channel will never let Stephen Hawkings take time off work to enter the contest

How long have they been out. The BK near me seems like it has been there for months.

If it's like the one in my region, it's Palencia and "El Pescadito" Ruiz. I don't remember who from Gals.

Oh.Great! There goes 90% of my pips!!:D

Hey, if you get the deposit back on some of those 40s you drink out on the front steps while waiting for your welfare check to come in maybe you can afford some Burger King too.

I'd like to see a poster featuring Dema making a two footed, studs up, thigh high tackle on that creepy Burger King.:)

I only noticed it this week. As far as I can remember it wasn't there the week prior.

How about Dema v Ronnie O Brien with The King in the role of Dema?

Theoretically, someone like myself could have been cut from high school, but ended up playing for an amateur team later on. I wonder what the difference is between semi-pro and amateur.

BTW, isn't there similar restrictions to the SuperBowl field goal kicking contest?

Semi-pro - you were paid for playing, or signed some sort of contract to play.

That's pretty silly. If it's anything like the contest they had at a SFV Quakes game I went to, there's no need to ban anybody (except maybe if Ronaldinho shows up).

They were giving away a brand new truck for a "shot in the goal". Having played plenty of soccer growing up, I figured..."hey I can do that!" Only problem...the goal was about 2'x2' in size and suspended about 6' in the air about 40 yards away. Oh well, at least I wasn't the hapless sap they picked to make the attempt.

Don't make the King angry. You wouldn't like him when he's angry.
