His groin issue hasn't cleared up, so he's being rested until the scans show the tear has cleared up, which could take two weeks or it could take four. Like the club, we'll just have to wait and see. Wright suffered a groin issue at Middlesbrough on New Year’s Day and hasn’t been able to train since. He was sent for a scan and the results show a tear in his adductor muscles which can mean a number of weeks on the sidelines to recover. However, Robins remains hopeful that the 25-year-old will be back sooner rather than later, saying: “He’s a lot better but not training just yet, although not too far away. Hopefully we can have him back pretty quickly, quicker than the scan results suggested. “They are treating the symptoms, which are minimal, if anything at all at the moment. So I am hoping that we get him back quickly.” https://www.coventrytelegraph.net/s...s/coventry-city-injuries-haji-wright-28440675
Haji being out didn't stop Coventry from recording an impressive win over runaway leaders Leicester City, a result which lifts them into the playoff slots for the first time this season and is the culmination of a rich vein of form: with only one loss in the last 12 games, they've now taken 25 out of the 36 points available. That's quite a change from the start of November, when they were just two places above the relegation zone. The change corresponded to a sudden shift from the 3-4-1-2 that Mark Robbins has been virtually married to at every club he's coached to a 4-4-1-1/4-1-4-1, in which Haji has been redeployed from the front 2 to an LAM position. Kudos to both for being this flexible and effective about it. They made the playoff final last season and I wouldn't bet against them doing it again, or even going one better
quite a few yanks within striking distance of promotion to the EPL...hopefully we get a few this year.
Promotion? Wright should be thinking about his stats/quality of play. Based on the transfer out history of Championship last season, if Wright gets say 15 goals or so, there will be offers to better leagues/clubs this summer.
Random stat I just noticed while scrolling around through FBRef. According to that site, Haji Wright has the highest xG/90 total in the Championship this season at 0.63. That comes out to an expected goal tally of 11.3 goals (which is 3rd best in the Championship, if you just go by xG totals and not per 90 stats). His actual goals and goal/90 stats (8 goals, and 0.45 g/90) don't crack the top 10 for Championship strikers, though they're still pretty good. Basically, he's getting into goal scoring positions more than pretty much anyone else in the league this season, but that's only translated into a respectable goal tally so far. 🏥 | Haji Wright will be available for today’s game against Sheffield Wednesday after being injured. He’s been in training in recent days.#PUSB pic.twitter.com/FoJD8ed9Xm— The Sky Blue Line (@TheSkyBlueLine) January 26, 2024
as predicted, Haji is in the squad on the bench. Here's to hoping for a nice 20 minute run-out AND HE'S CITY'S 45! 💚 📋 Our team for tonight's @EmiratesFACup meeting with @SWFC.#PUSB pic.twitter.com/K2lnxiU53q— Coventry City (@Coventry_City) January 26, 2024
Into the match around the 75th: Haji is back! 🦅 pic.twitter.com/H62rv6tUzt— Coventry City (@Coventry_City) January 26, 2024
Came in at 73', had 4 out of 4 accurate passes, 10 touches total, 1 successful dribble and 2 failed ones, lost possession 4 times, committed 2 fouls, was fouled once, and won 2 out of 7 duels for the ball (none of them aerial). Meh. But at least he played.
Coventry score in the 50th, 56th, and 58th - which was a header by Haji that made it 4-1 - and may have ended it early against Wednesday.
If he gets to 15 goals I want to aee what he can do on Ligue or Italy. Luca is having a decent season in La Liga and Sabbi is a contributor in Ligue 1, I don't see why Haji couldn't be successful at similar levels.
On a plate for Haji. 🍽️ pic.twitter.com/IL4BsUJGLw— Coventry City (@Coventry_City) February 6, 2024 Not a bad goal. I wish the camera angle was a bit wider to see what Haji did to create that much separation. The cross was exceptional.
And in the next round they're playing 6th tier Maidstone United, at home. It's be sad to see Maidstone's Cup run come to an end, but it's a great opportunity for Coventry to move to the next round
Haji Wright with a big few minutes for Coventry. With Coventry down 1-0 to Millwall, Haji- Draws a penalty in the 65th- converts penalty in the 66th to equalize at 1-1- puts Coventry up 2-1 in the 70th with a goal from the run of play— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) February 11, 2024
