U are correct. I saw an interview with Freitas do Amaral, the Minister of Foreign Affairs from Portugal on RTPi and he said these people where getting deported because they filled refugee claims to stay in Canada.

    Refugees from what and who?

To me regardless of what nationality the law is to be followed. I had to pay a shit load of money to stay in this country legally, filed papers after papers........so i am sorry if i don't feel sorry for these people!!!

I do feel bad for all these HARDWORKING people getting deported but lets face it, most of them ignored their initial letter to leave years ago and there are in this country illegally. Heck, My dad was an illegal back in the early 80's but he followed the proper channels to become a landed immigrant and got lucky. People say it was easier in the 80's but it really wasn't that much easier because the government was recognizing Portugal as a democratic country and stopped taking all the bogus "jehovas witness" people who claimed the portuguese government was persecuting them for their belifs. LOL

On top of this, I find it very insulting that they claim that they are "refugees". It's making Portugal look real bad. Portugal is a civilized country but these deportees are making Portugal look like a 3rd world country.

Also, if you are living in Canada illegally, WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU BUY A HOUSE AND START A BUSINESS????? Doesn't make sense to me.

Oh well, i wish these people the best of luck and hopefully they can return another day with landed immigrant status.

Well...I kinda see it like this:

I drive about 90-95 MPH in Nevada. Sometimes I will drive for hours on end without seeing a cop or anything other than commercial trucks. I really am doing no harm, and the situation makes it fairly safe to do so. Yet it is still illegal. The reason why it is illegal even though it is safe? Because there are many people who abuse the law in an unsafe manner. The laws are there to punish them.

From my point of view, if immigrants want to be here(Canada or US), thats fine. But the problem in my opinion is that immigrants dont get punished for what they do wrong...they get deported. If an immigrant gets in a car accident and doesn't have insurance, they should pay off the damages before they get deported. If they rob a quickie mart, they should go to jail before they get deported. If they sell or transport drugs, they should go to jail and/or be fined before they get deported.
If illegal immigrants are here and they dont cause problems...sure its against the law, but nobody is looking, if you know what I mean.

That example is irrelavent. Going over the speed limit is not breaking the law, it's breaking a traffic act which you get fined not arrested.

The punishment for illigal immigrants is getting deported just as if they commit a crime, they serve their time and get deported. Even landed immigrants get deported depending on their crime too.

Going over the speed limit IS breaking the law, because the law establishes the limit. Unless Canada is wierd, which could very well be the case.

Pretty much any misdemeanor offense by an illegal here will not come with jail time, because there isnt much jail space, and deportation is easier. Sure, they might serve time for felonies, but rarely for smaller crimes. And damages(such as the car accident case, which actually happened to my father) are NEVER paid, but rather they are just deported.

Right now, the way I feel is that immigrants get away with too much, and their punishment is too little. Sure, if we could deport Mexican immigrants to Portugal, it might be a more severe punishment. But the way it is right now, if someone gets deported, it is fully possible for them to come back the very same day.

they were given advice to take refugee status as that was the last hope that they would get to stay here in Canada and retain their possessions...however, it was obviously very stupid advice that many Portuguese illegals here paid for...

Yeah, that's what some of them are saying but really, these people have no excuse nowadays. Back in the 80's, they were tricked into going with refugee status and all that BS but now, we are in 2006, if some people fall for that old trick then they should open their eyes a bit more.

Canada allows immigrants into the country with ties to terrorist groups...but we also deport hardworking illegals. I don't see a problem, do you?

But I feel that the immigration consultants (and i use that term loosely) gave these people false advice by telling them they could claim refugee status, and charged them thousands, while knowing full well they couldn't do so because portugal does not meet the necessary criteria set out by the UN.
i beleive the gov't should look into these crooks who misled these ppl.

I dont deny that ppl with terrorist connections can get into canada, but trust me they are still tuff with security checks. I basically get strip searched every time i go by airport security (and i fly ALOT) just because of my name i guess. Mean while fat honke's with swiss army knives "can pick up their knives when they return to the airport" lol i wonder if i brought a swiss army knife to travel...would i get to pick it up later or would i get handcuffed...lol maybe ill have to try and see.

Definitly....It was a cuban girl that asked me. Brasilians proboly one of the more "popular" ethnicities to be.

The Salvadoran girl I was talking to told me she has a Portuguese friend who said " I wish I was Brasilian"

Me...Personally, I would have slapped that girl. The funny thing is she doesnt know any Portuguese apparently, what makes her think she would know any if she was Brasilian...hahahha....F her and anyone that shits on the green and red.
