The "Jong Ajax" roster is not really Jong Ajax. I presented: 1 He was the oldest player who played for them yesterday. 2. He is older than 9 guys who played for the first team today. That's fair from "average" age.
How can we reason with you when you won’t even read the things you are linking? It says: Non EU/EEA players need a work permit in order to play professional football in the Netherlands. The basic principle is that a work permit is only issued if is non-EU/EEA player who is: 18 or 19 years old signs a contract with a basic salary of € 197.308,- gross per year; 20 years or older signs a contract with a basic salary of € 394.616,-gross per year. Alex Mendez is a 19 year old on a three year (no +1) contract. He has a work permit, which we know because he plays professional football in the second division, as is clearly stated in your link. Ergo Alex Mendez must be making the EU Minimum (a ******** ton of $), which in turn makes most of yours and the other Skeptic arguments about him being useless filler and having made a bad career decision suspect if not void. How about y’all go back to the drawing board and come up with something else?
I mean their roster is fluid/different depending on where you look. If you play 1 match at Jong Ajax then 28 for first team Ajax, are you a Jong Ajax player? It's not a regular club roster. You keep ignoring my point about he was the oldest guy to start yesterday + 9 younger guys played for Ajax today. It's OK-- you have absolutely no point on him being "average" for the level and keep changing the goal posts.
You are ignoring that it was a preseason match and some guys who are currently with the first team, but will be with among Ajax once the season starts. As you said, it is fluid.
Uhm, the KNVB has rules about who can play in the Young teams in our second tier. This came after complaints from the real teams in that league the competition was becoming unfair because of the way Ajax composed Young Ajax teams in matches. One match they played about half of the first team selection, the next only 17 yo. So depending on who Ajax put on the pitch your club had an easy win or an uphill struggle. So the roster isnot that fluid.
Alex Mendez will travel with the Ajax first team to Austria! 🇺🇸 https://t.co/rhuyW1Bpq2— Daniel (@DanielSmith1022) August 14, 2020
What? I get that pressing and counter attacking is the rave these days but technical ability still trumps athleticism any day of the week. It still very much matters. You're right because that's why he's about to go to a club that only finished two points ahead of his current team and were in the relegation zone for most of the season. I don't see any evidence either that they paid a fee but I really doubt that Freiburg would just let one of their prospects go for nothing especially if he was under contract. I'll agree he was very inconsistent for Jong when he did play in the middle. As I said before because of his main weakenesses, he's probably going to take longer to develop because if you have looked at all of his matches at the youth level or in the USL, he wasn't asked to do those things. So now he either has to add those things to his game or he's going to find himself back stateside after awhile.
Never said technical ability doesn't matter. Just saying you need SOME athletic ability/fitness to play in the modern game. Used McKennie vs. Mendez as an example because they're total opposites. McKennie's technically is not good but a great athlete/work rate. I'm not as high as others on Weston as others. He's probably going to move for $25-30m and not to Hertha. I would say that's not bad and far better than someone who struggles to get onto the field in the Dutch 2nd Division. Sources were saying he was getting 1k/month from Freiberg. They paid nothing for him. Evidence points towards it was just a short stop for Mendez before a bigger club came calling.
Just an example of a player overlooked by most in the second team of Sochaux. Look at his stas in the CL. 🇭🇷 Ivan Perišić = Croatia's top talent? He has been directly involved in 6 goals in 8 UCL games this season (⚽️3⃣ 🅰️3⃣)▶️ @HNS_CFF pic.twitter.com/dkgEfjmocO— UEFA EURO 2024 (@EURO2024) August 15, 2020
Although he is reportedly with the senior team in Austria, he is not in squad for today's friendly. Friendly XI!🖥 18:00h, 𝙇𝙄𝙑𝙀 on @ZiggoSport!#wolaja #PreSeason 🇦🇹 pic.twitter.com/b3vp55AZ78— AFC Ajax (@AFCAjax) August 18, 2020
Yeah he’s with them because all the Jong Ajax players are at YCL/with first team so for the time being Jong Ajax doesn’t really exist.
He’s not a top prospect. He should ask for loan to a bottom eredivisie team. He won’t ever be good enough to make it at Ajax.

Would have thought he’d get garbage minutes considering they had a 3 goal lead late and it’s a friendly.
It was a full 23 player roster. They made some subs at the half and big change in the last 30 mins. I would have liked to see him get some minutes but not that surprising. It is still a good opportunity to make the bench.
Didn’t read the rest of the thread eh? He’s not good enough - I am making a joke for those with issues in this area. encouraging he’s even on the bench to me. While he prob won’t make it at Ajax it hopefully means that they do recognize he in a true prospect
