Consider me unlazy enough. Well, as this year is winding down...i figure it's time to go ahead ans start the nominations process. We have over a month to figure out how this is actually going to work out...but for now everyone can just post what they feel, and we (meaning...I) will jsut sift throught the junk later. OR just re-post it. Whatev. Try not to make more than 3 nominations In any case...my 3: Electrelane - The Power Out Of Montreal - Satanic Panic In The Attic Animal Collective - Sung Tongs have at it.
2nd on Satanic Panic. Others: Franz Ferdinand /obvious Killers -- Hot Fuss Wilco -- A Ghost Is Born -- even though every music critic on the planet is their bitch, it's still great. Secret Machines -- Now Here Is Nowhere Whoops, that's five. Oh well. There are some things I've bought recently that I haven't listened to yet (Ted Leo, The Dears) and things that have been Gmailed to me that I haven't even sampled (Elliott Smith, The Arcade Fire, Ambulance Ltd) and things that I will eventually buy but just haven't (Clinic, Luna, Brian Wilson's Smile). But I'll get around to all of those before the end of the year, I'm sure.
In no order The Streets - A grand don't come for free Trashcan Sinatras - weightlifting Finn Brothers - everyone is here Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans Elefant - Sunlight makes me paranoid (though that may be more sentimental than anything else)
Since Of Montreal's album has already been nominated and seconded, I'll add: Arcade Fire - Funeral Ambulance Ltd - self-titled Old Crow Medicine Show - O.C.M.S.
Ambulance Ltd. - LP The Cardigans - Long Gone Before Daylight The Killers - Hot Fuss Franz Ferdinand - Franz Ferdinand The Hong Kong - Rock The Faces (technically a 2003 release but I didn't discover it until this year). Graham Coxon - Happiness in Magazines Honorable mention to Trashcan Sinatra's "Weightlifting."
second on the Arcade Fire, probably my #1 right now 2. Interpol - Antics 3. Elliott Smith - From a Basement on the Hill
Came out in the middle of 2003. My nominations: Wax Poetic - Nublu Sessions Mastodon - Remission Enrique Bunbury - El Viaje a Ninguna Parte
The Streets- A Grand Don't Come For Free (my favorite this year by far) K-oS- A Joyful Rebellion I would have also said Basement Jaxx- Kish Kash but I just looked up the release date and saw that it was October 2003. I thought it was early 2004. Oh well.
everyone has their opinions so here is mine: chevelle- this type of thinking has to get a notable nome. kanye west- college dropout great electic music a perfect circle- emotive just listen to it.
Pain of Salvation - Be The Flower Kings - Adam & Eve Live album of the Year: Pain of Salvation - 12:5
North Mississippi All Stars Hill Country Review: Live at Bonnaroo Old Crow Medicine Show: O.C.M.S. Woven Hand: Consider the Birds Iron & Wine: Our Endless Numbered Days
Biffy Clyro - Infinity Land Emery - This Weak's End Taking Back Sunday - Where you want to be Lostprophets - Start Something Funeral For A Friend - Casually Dressed And Deep In Conversation
I haven't seen this mentioned. It may not be the best of the year, but it will certainly make my top 5:
Wilco - A Ghost is Born Youssou N'Dour - Egypt Tomasz Stanko Quartet - Suspended Night I'm a huge Elliott Smith fan and thought about nominating "From a Basement on the Hill", but I'm still getting over the shock of how much I dislike it (well, except for "Fond Farewell").
