...full-on legalizing of God's weed. ANCHORAGE (Reuters) - Voters in Alaska will decide on Tuesday whether to make their state the first in the country to legalize the sale, possession or use of marijuana by adults. Alaska already allows legal possession of small amounts of marijuana by adults, the most liberal policy among the 50 U.S. states, thanks to a 1975 state Supreme Court ruling. "Our territory and now state has traditionally been the home of people who prize their individuality and who have chosen to settle or to continue living here in order to achieve a measure of control over their own lifestyles which is now virtually unattainable in many of our sister states," the oft-quoted ruling said. Supporters say further decriminalizing pot would allow local governments and the state to regulate and tax it and free up police to pursue serious crimes. "This is a very broad initiative that says, instead of the prohibition model, let's try the regulation model," said David Finkelstein, a former state Democratic lawmaker helping to organize the initiative campaign for Tuesday's election. Opponents of the measure argue full legalization would be a step backward for Alaska, a state of about 650,000 people, which has an extremely high rate of substance abuse, including the use of marijuana by youths...
NOW I underrstand you--you're doped up all the time. You know, if you voted for lower taxes, you'd have more money to buy weed.
You know, if pot were decriminalized, far fewer tax dollars would be needed to perpetuate the prison-industrial complex created by the overzealous prosecution of marijuana users.
Stop making assumptions. If you stay around this board long enough (or ask around this board), you'll find that some of the things you've posted re: me in just the last 30 minutes are, in retrospect, really ********ing stupid.
And if you legalize weed you can buy more with the same money. So there's really no reason to increase deficit spending now is there?
Yeah, asking posters about you is on page 835 of my PDF file "To-Do" list, listed right after, "Watch a cricket game."
I think pot should be fully legalized, but saying it's just as important as the Presidential election is absolutely ridiculous.
This thread is forgetting Alaska's all important anti bear baiting bill. Yup, the voters of Alaska will decide today on whether or not it is legal to bait a bear. http://www.adn.com/front/story/5716812p-5650111c.html This bill has huge implications, not only for the citizens of Alaska, but western civilization as we know it. I mean, what could be better than getting stoned and baiting a bear?
C'mon people! What could be more important than smoking pot and bear baiting? Alaska has it goin' on! Alaska is our new cultural and political trend setter, leaving California in the dust.
It is and it isn't. For one thing, the War on "Drugs" affects people way more than the bozo who's sitting in the Oval Office. It also represents the tyranny of the minority (i.e. right wing radicals), special interests (i.e. pharmaceutical makers, private security firms that build and run our prisons) and scare tactics in politics. The symbolic value of marijuana legalization is almost as significant as the practical.
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2004/pages/results/ballot.measures/ looks like it won't pass, but damn 43% is a pretty good showing. i don't think it'll be long before a western state is able to pull this off (nevada had a mesure that was close a couple years ago).
Looks like medical marijuana is a go in Montana. Yeah!!! when my family history catches up with me I get to grow and get high.
I hate liberals like you I'll take the unpopular decision (on Bigsocer) and suggest that America doesn't need more pot smokers.
Pot smokers? I don't think it is really a question of needing them....It is more a question of....Dude, this computer screen is tripping me out!
