What I would really like to see is a fluke counter somehow with Leo going 1v1 with JVD and scoring on a chip. That would be epic and put to rest any sort of disbelief that there is not some sort of curse of having ex-Galaxy players scoring on the team.
That was really interesting - thanks for the link. The referee used replay to review, and he changed an initial yellow card to a red based on the instant replay. And Villa did not like it, and petulantly went after AJ on his way off the field. Ha! The announcers said MLS is testing the replay in preseason. Will it be used in regular games? Fascinating.
Was it a dive? Yes, but would there been a card at all if he hadn't dove? I am not sure. Basically, it was a play that won the game. To me it's another example of AJDLG's worth. One that doesn't show up in the stats.
That's one way of viewing it I suppose. I just am generally opposed to flopping, especially as exaggerated as this (so yes, that does mean I oppose to 99% of soccer players). If you look at it from a "smart play" point, it was a good move, but I personally don't see it as a merit to AJ's worth.
Lets be clear. AJ did not seek to fool the official. He was hit or slapped in the face which should have resulted in an automatic red card. Clearly the center didn't see Villa punch or slap AJ in the face but he or someone else saw something because a yellow card was issued. His falling to the ground brought attention to the situation and the correct call. I can only conclude you have no problem with Villa staying in the game after he punched/slapped AJ in the face because it didn't somehow hurt him that much? Where do you draw the line? Does blood need to flow?
LOL, there's an idea. Sort of like they do in the NHL. Smack in the face with no blood, yellow. With blood, red.
Nah I pretty clearly said in my first post I thought it was a red card, but that I was upset with the histrionics. Don't know where you got that second part from, but yeah, I thought it was a red card offense, thus me saying "red card of course"
Yes you said it was a red card, but you were upset about AJ's actions. It is my view that without those Villa would not have gotten the red and possibly not even the yellow. Do you think that a red would have been called without AJ hitting the ground?
That's nice they finally put stars on your jerseys...#WelcomeToTheRivalry https://t.co/czk6W8aaB7— AJ DeLaGarza (@AJD_20) February 18, 2017 Thank goodness I didn't get traded to Chivas USA... https://t.co/Zu32qAWia9— AJ DeLaGarza (@AJD_20) February 16, 2017
To be honest, I have no idea. With these MLS refs and video replay, who knows how it could've gone if AJ didn't flop. I do see where you're coming from though.
At the LARS SoTS (on Facebook), Klein said that AJ was due 300K this season. With the TAM, the team got a swing of 400K to help build the new team. They're convinced they had to do it in order to get another DP later.
Interesting, and I get the desire, but they knew about this for a long time. If so, AJ's move shouldn't have come late and as a surprise to him (and everyone else).
