Not much new to talk about at the moment with TFC so as a blast from the past here is Bob Iarusci of the FAN 590 in action for the New York Cosmos against the Chicago Sting in Soccer Bowl 1981 at Exhibition Stadium in Toronto:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EpAo9c705RE&NR=1
Awesome. Worth it for the graphics and haircuts alone. Don't forget: the shoot-out starts from the offside line. Almost can't believe people complain about BMO's turf when you see them playing at the Ex! There were even some slide-tackles! I had fun imagining that the Sting were the Hamilton Steelers though I never realized that they actually wore "bee" uniforms... gotta love that NASL cheese! "Welcome soccer fans. Tonight it's Dips versus Rowdies." How did they come up with those names. Now find me some CSL clips.
Not so easy I suspect given TSN reportedly zapped all their old CSL game tapes at one point. This CBC one did the rounds on the various TFC boards last year:- http://archives.cbc.ca/sports/soccer/clip/13468/
Get the DVD of Once In A Lifetime, the documentary about the Cosmos, and you'll see highlights of that game, plus the full shootout.
I have that match and both games of the 1984 Soccer Bowl (when the Blizzard faced Chicago) on DVD. The quality isn't that great, but it was from a TV broadcast. Blizzard has them, too! And yes, he's still pissed at Ron Futcher!
Brings back the memories, sigh. Mind you FIFA would go mad nowadays having cheerleaders behind the goal distracting the free kick being taken!!
Was soccer the main event? Everything was completely tacky, one thing I am glad I wasn't alive to see........
That was a dog of a game sadly. Ya, the cheerleaders thing was painful. The Blizzard had them for a couple of years too but then the fans got their way and they went away.
