This is truly a time to mourn the loss of perhaps MLS's most storied team, the SJ Earthquakes. But perhaps down the road, we'll see something like this, and the Earthquakes' legacy will continue:

Quakes return to MLS in '07 with a point to prove and a gorgeous, new downtown SSS that is the envy of the entire league (and the "Earthquakes" wordmark removed from the front of their jersies. ;) ) Frank Yallup returns to his post as the Quake's headcoach and builds a play-off caliber team in his first season (thanks to the stellar goalkeeping of Joe Cannon and unstoppable attacking ability of De Ro, at the peak of his career. SJ reaches the quaterfinals, soundly defeating the Houston Heart Disease 4-0 in front of a packed home crowd, advancing to the semifinals, where they have another second leg come-back win against the LA Galaxy. SJ loses in the final to DC and the indominable Freddy Adu, his last season before he heads off to Arsenal. The next season, the Earthquakes play the best soccer in the league, win their 3rd championship, and add to the team's history yet another unbelievable story of overcoming the odds ...
