Hmm, a John Cage quote. Which reminds me I haven't listened to 4'33" in a while...or, umm, maybe I have. I'll have some mushrooms with that piece, if you don't mind.
Given most the stuff I own and my persona you would probably expect me to hate Robbie Williams, but I think most is stuff is great.
Stupid confession: I've always resisted buying Lucinda Williams' "Car Wheels on a Gravel Road" because I think that's an extra-trite sounding album title and, as a bonus, it has always triggered an association with Joni Mitchell's "Hisssing of Summer Lawns" -- which I've also never heard and is easily one of the worst album titles ever. And Joni Mitchell (yeah, yeah ... 'legend,' 'genius,' blah, blah) is a drag. I'm strongly reconsidering the first opinion.
Little bit of dirt, mixed with tears. Lucinda Williams should cut a whole album of songs with Steve Earle.
I know Mana, I now know Cafe Tacuba. Who is next in Mexican Rock, and what is their best album? Rafael?
Molotov is the hottest band out there. They cleaned house in the MTVlatin VMA´s. They also use a lot of english in their songs (one of the members is american). Other good bands are Jaguares, La Gusana Ciega, Kinky,Fobia, etc.
I was just in Mexico City last week (Polanco) and I picked up a Chilango magazine (I speak little spanish, so I was trying to practice) and there was a mini article/photo of Molotov. Jesus Mexico City is the most tragic, *#*#*#*#ed up great city in the world. Thanks for the advice. Feel free to post any particular CDs. Amazon.com is not too helpful. I am also at a point in my life where I have no friends who listen to anything that is worthwhile. So I am forced to rely on soccer boards....
I guess you are right. Why listen when you can just save the time and join the hater bandwagon and pretend you know what you are talking about?
Speakin' of hatin'... It's too bad Ryan Adams' recent rep as a dick and aquisition of an actress girlfriend is overshadowing his Rock & Roll album, which is pretty damn good.
No matter what I listen from Linkin Park, I still can't take seriously a band whose lead singer is named Chester.
I'll tell you what though, that old codger can still funk the roof off a joint. I caught his show at the 9:30 club in DC earlier this year and it was Funktastic. One of the two best shows I saw all year long.
Ruben Gonzales from BVSC died the other day. This is another person I can add to my "people I saw perform live who are since dead" list... Michael Hutchence (INXS) Layne Staley (Alice In Chains) David Ruffin (The Temptations) Eddie Kendricks (The Temptations) Albert King Albert Collins Bob Stinson (Replacements) Carl Wilson (Beach Boys) Kenny Kirkland (jazz solo; Sting) Dennis Brown (reggae legend) Mark Sandman (Morphine) Bobby Sheehan (Blues Traveler) Ben Orr (The Cars) Rob Buck (10,000 Maniacs) Jam Master Jay ... and now, Ruben.
Damnit, now I may have to check this out. I have been avoiding it though I have everything through demolition. Maybe I'll have to check it out.
Damn, that's some list. I'm trying to come up with a list of my own...do I have even one? Jeff Buckley That's all I can come up with. Hmm.
I'm surprised Obie's never seen The Ramones. I just did one of those lists in my head, and it makes me feel old.
Wow thats sad. I saw a Stinson-era Mats show, and a Nirvana show a year or so before "Teen Spirit" came out... oh yeah saw the Ramones at Colby College one year. Er....and a Dead show when I was 17. Still emberassed about that.
