second division Louisville City... Source: Josh Wynder completes $1.5m Benfica transfer Is $1.5 million more than the Quakes have made from player transfers in their entire existence?
We sold Lopez to Feyenoord for $1.2 million euros. (according to transfermrkt) Don't know what the exchange rate was at the time.
We certainly tried last night. The starting lineup was fine and we put the big guns in later. We just suck.
Yeah, I don't think Quakes prioritize USOC less than other teams. I think pretty much all MLS teams will play a partial "B" lineup in these early games. But we do poorly because 1) we usually aren't very good to begin with, 2) on top of that, we usually have poor depth and almost 0 squad rotation to give the bench guys meaningful minutes, and 3) we almost never win on the road in any competition.
Have we done anything in the Cup since Kip Colvey's legendary 7 key passes in one half performance? All downhill since then?
Right, and in that "Kip Colvey 7 key pass" year, we made it to the semifinals or quarterfinals or something against SKC (and I think went to pens). Unfortunately after that 7 key pass game, Kip got injured and I don't think he played in USOC after that game. Probably strained his adductor making all of those key passes.
Super proud that the Quakes are seen as a top 5 analytics club in the league. This department was created only two years ago and we’ve made major moves since 💪 https://t.co/efmcPctBpY pic.twitter.com/KUYTIS39Gj— Lucy Rowland (@LRowlandData) May 2, 2023

This is about where we always are - lower half, maybe top lower 3rd, something like that. This year we are 9th from the bottom. Not a surprise, but we have 0 DP's making over $1.65M. This is probably the first time we've cracked $13M but we‘re always creeping up a bit year over year like the rest of the league. FWIW the top 2 highest spending teams have a combined 4 wins in 23 games. The next 4, Atlanta, DCU, Austin, and Chicago are collectively pretty “meh” if you combine their records.

The Athletic (paywall) has an article up about players underperforming for their contract amounts. I figured the Quakes wouldn’t make that list but I was wrong. Daniel is on there as a (dis) Honorable Mention at 400k.
Not really fair though because he's been injured for much of the season, and had apparently won the starting job at the beginning of the season.
1. Daniel is okay 2. We needed a backup goalkeeper to challenge JT in any case 3. Small sample size 4. If your worst contract in MLS is $400k you're doing alright
brutal LAFC doing trivia with fans and one of the questions was when was the last time San Jose Earthquakes won an MLS Playoff game. All why SJ earthquakes warm up. 😅#LAFC #Quakes74 pic.twitter.com/qymIj9NF42— Gio Garcia (@GioGarciaLA) May 21, 2023
Well the joke is on them - their answer is wrong. Which begs the question - when’s the last time LAFC got a Quakes pregame trivia answer correct?
