A shame, really

It is reported in today's Boston Globe that Saturday night's Eastern Conference final drew a television rating of only 0.8 on NESN, which placed it at the bottom of the list.

What a real shame it is that more people did not get to watch such a tremendous game, which was about as good of an advertisement for their game as MLS could ever hope to have.

Some people may have been confused by the switch to NESN, which does not regularly broadcast Revolution matches but there was a large ad in the Globe and anyone that was that interested in watching it could have easily found what channel it was on by looking.

Greg Lalas made some honest and candid observations, which is far better than the nonsense that Lagerway spouts. Too bad Adrian Healey was not doing the game with Lalas, in my opinion. It was a great spectacle of soccer never the less.

all you have to do is look at the bc game's numbers and then switch over to see the celt's numbers on FSNNE (7pm start) to see what happened here. still, it IS too bad though.

Not sure if it really matters, but the game was also broadcast on FSW.

I wonder what the composit market share was--NESN, FSW and Direct Kick package? My guess is that the composit was over 2.0

If you read the whole list, you would have seen that the Celtics' game that was on at the same time got a 1.7 rating. Given the relative profiles of the two teams on the New England sports landscape, a .8 on a night when there obviously weren't a lot of people who stayed home and watched sports isn't so bad.

What is too bad is that it turned out to be their last game of the year, so anybody who was hooked won't be able to act on it until the Spring.

The Revs game was also had the second highest rating on NESN for the weekend, which is not bad either. Maybe they'll be receptive to hosting non-FSNE matches in the future.

Since many more people in New England would have NESN than FSW, what makes you think that FSW would have an unregistered 1.2 when NESN only drew a 0.8?

I think it more realistic that FSW would have a 0.1 or less, given how few people have it in New England and those that have both would be much more likely to watch the local broadcast than Max Bretos.

It was good to see the good sized NESN ad for the two college football games and the Revos match, compete with Revos logo. Interesting that NESN would run that ad when we haven't seen anything similar from the team, FSNE or channel 56.

With the Red Sox done and the Bruins not skating, NESN doesn't have much of anything else to attract an audience. Interest in the Celtics is way down, and their ratings were in Revos territory at the end of last season, so comparing to them is big deal even though their rating was slightly more than double.

It is a real shame that more people didn't get to watch what was likely the most exciting contest the Revos have ever been involved in. It would be tough to build on something like that when it was only the choir being preached to on Saturday night.

Let's not forget all the viewers of HDnet on DirecTV who watched aurguably the most passionate game the Revos ever played in glorious high definition, rebroadcast at 1am ...

I didn't see where else to put this, so I'll keep to the theme of the thread and say that it's too bad that more in New England didn't see the game, since it truely was the MLS Cup game.

The two best teams in the league played a classic--last Saturday, not today.

Kansas City can't hold your guys' jocks.

See you again next year. You've got a classy team.

Agreed. If that had been New England that DC were playing today rather than KC, playing the way they did in the Eastern Final and up a man for the last half-hour, my thought is the Revs would have won 4-3, no extra time needed.

But KC didn't take command of the game, either after their goal or after the PK, and it killed them.
