I'd much rather see the virulent anti-soccer New Limited tabloids go under than anything from the Fairfax stable. At least the Herald retains Seb Hassett on staff. It will be a happy day for football (and us suffering fans) when the Daily Telegraph and Herald Sun are no longer able to print an OMG Sockah Riotzzz!!! front page.

I'm starting to get a little worried about the lack of anything concrete with del Piero. Are Sydney guilty of premature contractulation? They will look like complete mugs if they blew it by going public too early? Actualy I've just checked the time in Italy. All day we've been waiting for news, but at 5pm in the afternoon AEST, its just gone 9 am Monday morning. ADP said "see you Monday"so if it is going to happen on Monday Euro-time; us Aussies will wake up tomorrow to some happy tweets
Nothing we said has been contradicted by del Piero's people: we have an in principle agreement, details need to be thrashed out and nothing has been signed. They wouldn't have invited Tony and Lou over there unless they were serious, barring some totally unforseen catastrophe this thing is happening. Though more likely we'll hear the final word on Wednesday than tomorrow morning.
SFC surely still in the box seat? What are the Greeks going to pay him with? smiles and goodwill? don't underestimate the power the vision of Australia has on the Euro psyche. for them our country seems like a paradise, especially after 50 years of hearing stories from relatives following post WW2 migration. This is Sydney's to lose - is my gut feel. just posted on twitter: @OzFootbalGossip: After 4 hours of meetings, at 21.30CET Sydney FC & Del Piero's brother have left the office and gone dinner together. Let's hope the vino flows RT @tancredipalmeri: Del Piero close to Sydney FC according to Sky Italy Retweeted by OzfootbalGossip
Talks were 'positive but not decisive' and now they're having dinner. Sticking point is probably the length of contract and one way or another that should be resolved by tomorrow morning.
SBS did start immediately with the Socceroos WCQ played in Jordan (on a 1 hour delay), so this deal must be very close to being officially signed off on. So unless things go really bad it looks like the Socceroos returning to FTA starts immediately while the A-league part of the deal has to wait another year.

Not signed yet but more information coming out about the new FFA tv deal which is now speculated to start this session worth $175 million over 5 years (split between Fox Sports 125m / SBS 50m). Full article http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/s...ay-be-worth-175m/story-e6frfg8x-1226479844270

Attn all of our facebook users in BigSoccer: Sydney FC in the A-League have created a competition to design a one off third jersey strip to raise money for charity. A friend of the BigSoccer community has created a few designs, which he has entered into the competition. All we need is a few seconds to click on either the image or the link of one of the jersey concepts, or even all if you want, and give a "like". https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...0618.121045.114923115193749&type=3&permPage=1 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...0618.121045.114923115193749&type=3&permPage=1 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...0618.121045.114923115193749&type=3&permPage=1 https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?...0618.121045.114923115193749&type=3&permPage=1 Thanks again for your time, and hopefully all of BigSoccer's posters can help out one of our community.

I saw this this morning and had to check to make sure it wasn't April 1st Great to see some of the old Soccer-knockers having a few 'Road to Damascus' events recently...even that hateful bitch Rebecca Wilson hasn't been sighted for a few months Soccer is on the up down under, its a great time to be a football fan!!
I put the sea-change down to a couple of things. Sydney is the home of the majority of Australia's media, if the HAL is doing well in the harbour city it follows that the influential types in the media will see this. ADP boosting SFCs crowds and WSW being successfully born (thus the Sydney Derby being an epic success) are 3 of the biggest 'wins' soccer has had in recent decades and thus there is more positive press around the game. Coupled with that is the good news regarding the new TV deal and less boneheaded decisions from FFAHQ. SBS are now on board giving our game a Freeto Air component again....we are on the up and everybody wants onboard the bandwagon. good times ahead I'm sure of it. News Limited recently increased their stake in Foxtel, conspiracy theorists might ask if uncle rupert has issued a News Limited internal meno requesting that his investment be respected - I cant even guess though, New owned RL for so long and still sold tonnes of newspapers on sordid tales of League debauchery. Say what you like about Soccer players, they are yet to be caught defecating in a hotel hallway. Curious Americans can Google "NRL player defecates in hotel" or "NRL poo drama" No I am not joking.
LOL, I believe footballers in England have a rep for being over paid over pampered Nancies.. "They 'only' offerred me GBP50k/wk...I was so angry that I almost lost control of my Bentley" etc
