Damn those right backs. That's the hardest position to fill. I guess I'll move Szimanowski to the 'A' team.

Surely Poland was not involved in the EC finals, right?

That right full back position really is a bit troublesome...

You can use any of the Polish players from the 70s and 80s (or any other period), as they never made it to an important final. I am drawing heavily from the Polish talent pool, players like Boniek, Deyna, Szymanovski, Gadocha, Lato, Szarmach, Musial, Lubanski, Tomaszevski, Gorgon, Kasperczak, Smolarek have already made my teams, or will make them in the future.

Here`s my third team. Through the day, whenever I find the time, I think about which players could be used. This thread was really a great idea. Not always the same names.

    Team C

    ----------Simonsen------Lubanski-----Best

    --------van Himst-------Bergkamp------Lerby

    -----Musial-----Shesternev----Figueroa------Buljan

    ----------------------Tomaszevski

There seem to be very few modern right backs of sufficient quality who qualify for this. Going back to the 50's and before the right back was more of a right sided central defender, but I don't think it would be too much of a stretch to say that Paul Janes and Marquitos could be included.

I'm surprised Falcao isn't in any of these. What about Francescoli?

Falcao, Socrates, Tonino Cerezo, Zico... How did those guys not make it to WC final?

I have Zico on my A team. 'El principe' Francescoli I have on my B team, even though he is a gayina.

Yes, I checked the records :( about to amend, again. I hate right backs as much as they hate me :D

Actually, I will amend and post up team 2 at the same time.

    Team B

    ----------Jennings
    -------Jonquet--Sol Campell
    J.Zanetti----------------Junior
    -Socrates---Falcao--Best
    -Matthews--Lato--Boniek

    ----

Kinda making sure the 1st team is complete by picking someone I know at RB who never went to a final. I struggle badly for RB's and thought I'd go modern for Javier Zanetti. Who is just solid dependable and intelligent enough to do that job and not look out of place on this team. I really rate Sol Campbell highly and also think he is not out of place here. I don't thin I can recall him ever making a mistake in a major and he's been absolutely solid for 8years and 4majors in a row now.

I was thining of going to a 3-4-3 so I could find room for T.Cerezo but he'll be in team 3 where I'll take a RB who was a club legend rather then rack my brains trying to find great int. RB's

I'm surprised I haven't seen Stoichkov, Laudrup, Weah or Sheva in any of your teams. I'll post mine later.

I like the choice of Julinho. What about Michael Laudrup and Leonidas?

I meant to comment on this before. I was suprised to see Keegan taken before Dalglish. I really like that front line also. Very fast and mobile

There's a way to go before Stoichkov is taken I think. Sheva and M.Laudrup however will be used very soon I'm sure.

Weah will need a prolific strike partner then he's good to go.

Other players who are not yet mentioned but can easily be in the Best Alternet XI include Ademir, Nelinho, Careca, Fontaine, Dirceu, Kopa, Butragueno, Kanchelskis, Dobrovolskij, Stojkovic, Elkjaer, Hugo Sanchez, Roger Milla, Abedi Pele, Batistuta, Jan Ceulemans, Hagi, Hans Krankl, Enzo Scifo, and Giggs.

A few of the ones you mentioned have been taken. Look again. Some others are good spots and well, the rest I don't think so, personally.

You are right. He scored a goal at the tournament and lost to West Germany in the final.

Interesting team you got here, very flexible and lots of creativity with a super furry moustache in midfield for that special touch! :D

Kope not good enough for team 1 or 2?

Dalglish will be in my next team.

    Cool thread.

Without using any players previously mentioned (either in someone's line-up, or suggested as a candidate), and omitting current players, here's one off the top:

    -------------N'Kono---------------
    Josimar----Santamaria---Perfumo---K.Sansom
    -------Dirceu Lopez----Mifflin-------
    -----Da Guia (son)------F.Albert-----
    --------Leonidas------Onega--------

I freely admit that Josimar may be a stretch, but you can't deny his "effervescence" in '86, can you?
