João Lucas This article says he was born in the US and has been approached by USSF. https://globoesporte.globo.com/rs/f...dagem-para-defender-os-eua-gratificante.ghtml At the age of 17, João Lucas is still taking his first steps in football, away from a debut for Inter's professional team. But soon enough he's already faced with a career dilemma. Son of Brazilian parents and born in the United States, the U-17 team received a poll to defend the U.S. team in the United States. The contact made by the leaders of the US football confederation fills the boy with pride for the early recognition of his talent. Still, the athlete, his parents and his manager avoid an immediate decision. Even because João Lucas still maintains the dream of defending the Brazilian team, for having grown up on Tupinikin soil. João Lucas was born in Denville, New Jersey, in 2001, but his parents chose to return to Brazil when he was still a few months old, to raise him close to the family. The young man began his career in futsal, in the school of Falcão and Sorato in Criciúma, Santa Catarina. From there, the boy started acting in the field at age 11, by Criciúma. A year later, he participated in a traditional tournament of the beginning of the year in Três Coroas, in the interior of the state of Rio Grande do Sul. The highlight in the competition attracted Inter's looks.
Here's his club profile. For those keeping track, his birthdate is Sept. 20, 2001. http://www.internacional.com.br/conteudo?modulo=3&setor=26&secao=32&codigo=2200
Maybe one we'll hear about when his U20 cycle starts up? http://www.internacional.com.br/conteudo?modulo=3&setor=26&secao=31&codigo=2200 Mostly posting this because the link has apparently been updated w/some new info/photo.
Sobre João Lucas: ele teve seu contrato renovado pelo Inter até 2022. E está na mira da seleção brasileira sub-20. Deve aparecer na próxima convocação.Ah! Ele nasceu nos EUA e também pode defender a seleção norte-americana #trbeirario— Eduardo Deconto (@eduardodeconto) July 27, 2019 This guy is in the targets of Brazil U20. I have never seen him play, but if he is called to the Brazilian team must have talent.
A prospect to watch? Johnny Cardoso recently made his first team debut for Internacional in Brazil's Serie A (final 15 minutes of a 9/15/19 3-1 win over Atletico Mineiro). Raised in Brazil, Cardoso was born in 2001 right here in the Garden State.— Brian Sciaretta (@BrianSciaretta) October 4, 2019 (ATLxINT) 0x3 - ⏰ 29'/2T: Segunda substituição colorada. The sock moved to Criciuma, Santa Catarina, at the age of three months. But leaving the United States so early does not mean forgetting the roots. “My father who started calling me that. Joao is John in English, and Johnny is kind of the nickname there. And that's how it got here too, ”he says. @BostonRed I started a thread in the main forum about him today. I didn't realize you beat me to the punch. My bad
The name thing is super confusing. I almost didn't find this original thread & I'm the one who created it.
It's been really different suddenly following clubs in Argentina and Colombia and Ecuador (and now, Brazil). Never figured we would have much of a South American contingent.
The other shoe... a US U23 call-up: https://sbisoccer.com/2019/10/mendez-ledezma-and-soto-headline-usmnt-u-23-squad-for-october-camp MIDFIELDERS: Christian Cappis (Hobro/DEN; Katy, Texas), Johnny Cardoso (Internacional/BRA; Porto Alegre, Brazil), Hassani Dotson (Minnesota United FC; Federal Way, Wash.), Chris Durkin (Sint-Truiden/BEL; Glen Allen, Va.), Richard Ledezma (PSV Eindhoven/NED; Phoenix, Ariz.), Alex Mendez (Ajax/NED; Los Angeles, Calif.), Djordje Mihailovic (Chicago Fire; Lemont, Ill.)
Wasn’t there a youth player in Brazil whose Dad was commenting on here at one point like a year or two ago. Was it Johnny’s? Jw if anyone remember this or if I’m just misremembering lol.
Still some interest from Brazil: Sobre João Lucas: ele teve seu contrato renovado pelo Inter até 2022. E está na mira da seleção brasileira sub-20. Deve aparecer na próxima convocação.Ah! I can't take any credit for this one. But the timeline this thread implies indicates that there's a bit more to the player's history with U.S. Soccer than Kreis suggested in his interview with @bshredder.
So the reports I am hearing is that Cardoso did well with the U-23 team. He played as defensive midfielder. As one player said - "he''s a real ball-winner." On the 2020 U-23 team, his competition will be Dotson, Durkin, Yueill. Then down the road, Adams (if he ever gets involved). My own gut says he'll be more of a U-20 player for 2021. Then U-23 in 2024. But every report is that he's good. Clean on the ball too.
I thought he was a forward, but I’ll take a good, ball winning CDM any day. That use to be our bread and butter but besides Adams and Morales (who can’t get healthy) we are absent good destroyer mids.
I’ve been saying this, but I think Dotson will settle into this role. He’s been doing really well with a good Minnesota team and will start for the U-23s. It would not surprise me if he eventually settled into this role as the backup to Adams down the road - with another good season at Minnesota and continued positive camps with the U-23s
