20h16 - BUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUT POUR LES LOUPS !!! Erreur dans la défense portugaise et Odemwingie lobbe le gardien !

Error by the Portuguese defense and Odemwingie lobs the keeper

    1-0 to La Louviere

Now what they need is some spectacular defending. Monsieur Onyewu, please pick up the white courtesy phone.

What a great experience for the kid, and, all things considered, not a bad result.

Yeah, three points would have been nice but considering Benfica has a considerably larger payroll, this is a good point.

Yeah, but now they need a result in Benfica...and if the result is a 0-0 draw, they're still out.

    Gonna be tough....

"21' jogada de contra-ataque do LA L.. Remate forte de Onyewo que Moreira so conseque segurar segunda"

    in English

On a counter attack , a powerful shot by Onyewo that Moreira(goalkeeper , Benfica) had a hard time holding onto the ball.

So is he playing outside or central?

Ppl say Howard's move to Man Utd is big... i say Ougchi move to Belgium and playing regulary now is as big. I say he's #3 in the depth chart at centerback for NT.

Not yet this is what his third game over there? He clearly has the talent to be #3. But give him another six months of Euro seasoning first. Come January, he probably will be #3, but right now you have to put Gibbs, Berhalter or the orange cone there first.

The first two weeks of February are the Olympic qualifiers in Mexico. We'll have a pretty good sense as to where Gooch is in terms of his development after that tournament.

If he shows well there then yes, bring him up for a look for the "minnow round" of WC qualifying.

I fail to distinguish the difference. Perhaps the Orange Cone wouldn't try to shield the ball from a Brazilian as a last man and then not hustle back on defense though. Advantage: Orange Cone.

    funny.

i really do think it's pope and boca in the center from now on, with various variations of pope and gibbs, calliff and boca, califf and gibbs and now maybe gooch and boca, or gooch and gibbs. our center should be solid for a few years. the worry is our left back and right back positions.

I don't like Califf b/c he seem too slow in the int'l level. He's fine in MLS. Gibbs plays left back for St. Gibbs and looked better in left back hooking up with Beasley/Lewis more than centerbacks. He's a player that likes to go forward (same as Onyewu) so playing him in center back would waste his offensive skills.

Actually, I believe that Gibbs has been playing midfielder this year now that St. Pauli is in DIII, but you would have to ask olafgb or someone to be sure.
