From the Montreal story: Bird bets on casino: Indiana Pacers general manager Larry Bird is a prominent member of a group trying to get a casino license in Bird's home town of French Lick, Ind. The Pacers say Bird's involvement doesn't contravene any NBA rules and the former Boston Celtics great said he'll donate his profits from the casino to charity. I can see it now, "Hmmmm, I have a couple days off for a long weekend (holds out hands palms up) Vegas or French Lick -- Vegas or French Lick? I just can't decide."
Re: 9/18 Wisdom from Woly Good article. My favorite passage: ------------ Being a pro athlete has its disadvantages, too -- such as having your games televised so your performance can be reviewed by some harsh 14-year-old critics. "I'll tell the kids not to give up on a ball and they'll say something like, 'Well, I saw you on TV the other night and you didn't chase it,'" Wolyniec laughed. "They're at that high school age, always trying to act cool." --------------

Conrad's piece on cnnsi is a fun read with a few candid comments by Mulrooney about San Jose and the attendance issue.
It read like a BigSoccer thread, but without all the namecalling. Hell, it might have been a BigSoccer thread.
