Trying to spot the players who were awarded a 6 in FF, by checking the images posted over Footnostalgie.

FF use numbers since the 1982/1983 season. They used asterisks prior, since the 1959-1960 season.
From the 1956-1957 season to the 1958-1959 season, although FF already award the Etoile d'Or, they don't make their ratings public, only have a list of the best players in a last column after the short game reports.

Possibly, they listed the players who received the grade of 6 at one point though and for sure, as we will see, they talked about it in some longer game reports or articles.

In those late 50's, thanks to one article that was posted, I could spot one player who received the grade of 6.
It is no less than Kees Rijvers, the first Etoile d'Or recipient who was rated 6 in a game Lens against Saint-Etienne, in January '57 (0-2, goals scored by Njo Léa).

In this article entitled "Rijvers, better than ever", Gabriel Hanot praise the Dutchman : 'outstanding amongst the 22 actors of this game, including Mekhloufi... his covering of the ground was admirable in the offensive aspect but also when it came about preserving the score... was applauded by the local public who secretely dreamt about a win for their team but who could only admired his wrong-foots, how he turned around the game... his quick starts in spite of an icy pitch, in brief the total insensibilty to imbalance from the international little Dutch CF'.
'His lucidity, his positioning, his feints with a teammate, that provides a great variety to his game, make that Rijvers deserves to be awarded with this maximum grade of 6, which is very rarely awarded in the France Football rankings'.
As a conclusion, Hanot underlines Rijvers' conscientiousness, telling that he passed an easy Cup game and forget the prime that goes with, in order to prepare himself the best to this "capital league game of last sunday, against the Lensois".

Lens (3rd at this moment) would be the vice-champions behind Saint-Etienne who dominated the whole league season.

Next, it will be about checking the 1979-1989 period.

    Checking the league ratings.

Except omission on my part :

    1979/1980 (15 times, 14 players)

    Day #3 : Jean-Luc Ettori, Nantes, v Monaco, 0-0 (Monaco GK)
"how many chances Nantes would have needed to finally beat Ettori? We can ask ourselves, since they putted so much efforts in taking no advantage from the ones they created, the biggest one being a pk [...] a flabby shot by Rio"

Day #3 : Pierrick Hiard, Bastia v Strasbourg, 2-1 (Bastia GK)

Day #3 : Philippe Bergeroo, Lille v Nîmes, 4-0 (Lille GK)

    Day #4 : Olivier Rouyer, Nancy v Marseille, 5-0 (2 goals)

    Day #5 : Omar Sahnoun, Bordeaux v Nice, 3-0

    Day #12 : Yannick Stopyra, Bordeaux v Sochaux, 2-3 (came in at the 63rd minute and scored a hat-trick : 68', 85', 87')

    Day #15 : Loïc Amisse, Nantes v Nice, 5-0 (1 goal)

Day #24 : Merry Krimau, Bastia v Nice, 3-0 (1 goal; him and Papi,5, created many chances)

Day #26 : Drago Vabec, Brest v Nancy, 3-3 (1 goal, the equalizer. A pleasing game for the spectators)

    Day #26 : Nambatingue Toko, Marseille v Valenciennes, 3-6 (3 goals)
"This time Marseille hit rock bottom [...] had the misfortune to find on their way a Toko in state of grace who had an exceptional game, scoring three goals and participating in the three others". [Marseille 19th. Trésor, who's usually well-rated in spite of the poor results of his team, missed this game.

Day #27 : Patrick Bas, Valenciennes v Nantes, 1-0 (Valenciennes GK). "Nantes played like at home, attacking all the way [...], VA preserved their victory [early goal] thanks to their astonishing keeper, Bas, but also their 'seasoned' but so excellent Wrazy, true chief and tower of defense and more simply leader of this team, who has an exemplary season". Wrazy : 5.

    Day #31 : Ivan Curkovic, Saint-Etienne v Monaco, 2-1

    Day #32 : Abdelmajid Bourebbou, Laval v Bastia, 3-0 (2 goals)

Day #34 : Pierrick Hiard (2), Brest v Bastia, 3-0. "the Corsicans were already on holidays, but Hiard, the little devil, stopped every tries from the Bretons. Thus, we had to wait until the 82nd min. to see Letemahulu to finally beat Hiard thanks to a superb bicycle-kick. This goal started the blood bath. Letemahulu on a pass from Honorine, then Honorine on a pass from Letemahulu, crucified the Corsican keeper". [Hiard is a Breton actually]

Day #36 : Delio Onnis, Monaco v Lyon, 4-0 (3 goals) (the first goal, the opener is a pk scored in two times. He also scored "a goal of anthology")

5 games on Day #32 as well as a couple of delayed games are missing (broken links).

Etoile d'Or : Pierrick Hiard (S.E.C Bastia goalkeeper)

    Day #8 : Dominique Baratelli, Nantes v PSG, 1-1

Day #11 : Jean-Marc Desrousseaux, Metz v Lille, 1-0 (Metz GK). "[..]the hero of the match [...] but the Lillois also helped him a lot, showing their clumsiness since the very first minutes of the game. Something's definitevely wrong at Lille these times".

Day #22 : Serge Chiesa, Lyon v Nîmes, 4-2 (2 goals). "a crazy game[...] Chiesa scored the last goal in the last second, a fair reward for the king of the pitch"

Day #28 : Dominique Dropsy, Strasbourg v Lens, 1-0. "In the second half, Dropsy used the whole range of his skills to keep a clean sheet"

Day #29 : Alain Giresse, Bordeaux v Lyon, 3-2 (1 goal, 75', the winner, "a magnificient volley goal")

Day #38 : Daniel Leclercq, Lens v Sochaux, 5-1 (midfielder). Sochaux equalized at the 58th min. then Lens reacted immediately, 2-1, and 5-1 in the end.

5 games missing on Day #1 as well as on Day #4 and Day #7.

Etoile d'Or : Dominique Dropsy (RC Strasbourg goalkeeper).

Since the 1984/85 season, the sum-ups are replaced with the descriptions of the goals and biggest chances. Thus, it becomes systematic and it will get more and more precise over time, until the end of the decade.

    5 games are missing on Day #25 : Bordeaux v caen (2-1), OM v RCP (4-1), Auxerre v Sochaux (1-1), Monaco v Toulon (2-1), Toulouse v Nice (0-1).

(a 5, yes, that's all what Papin earned when he scored 4 goals against Sochaux).

Etoile d'Or : Jean-Luc Ettori (Monaco goalkeeper). 2nd : Philippe Périlleux (Lille midfielder). 3rd : Philippe Montanier (Caen goalkeeper).

    1990/1991 (5 times, 5 players)

Day #5 : David Ginola, Brest v Nice, 4-0 (first an assist : "stroke of genius by Ginola on the right wing, who then perfectly crosses the ball with the left foot on Salaün's head". And goal #3 : "this time, it's Salaün who crosses the ball from the right wing on Ginola's head"). Salaün : 5.

Day #6 : Aljosa Asanovic, Metz v Saint-Etienne, 3-1 (Three fk's stopped by Ceccarelli at the 17', 20', 44' then 1 goal from the pk spot at the 57'. 1 direct ck is poached in by a teammate, Romano, also helped by Cyprien of Saint-Etienne, for the 3rd goal, 84'). Aliocha.

Day #14 : Jean-Marc Ferreri, Bordeaux v Nancy, 5-0 (2 goals. Main animator of the game durng the first hour of play. 1 solo goal, "eliminating several opponents", 83', 1 goal on a cross from Lizarazu, 88').

Day #15 : Pierrick Hiard, Rennes v Bordeaux, 2-1. Two brilliant actions are mentioned. It is the 3rd time that the 35-36 years old and twice recipient of the Etoile d'Or earns a 6 in career.

Day #27 : Enzo Scifo, Auxerre v Sochaux, 4-1 (delayed after Day #29). 3 goals and a back-pass assist to Prunier.

It looks like there's a little bit more of goals, and not only from the OM's attack (from Auxerre too). But it only could be better compared to the last season.
Note : there's a typo for Zidane (of Cannes); Zidaine. A couple of times, against Bordeaux (3, 1-1) and Marseille (4, 1-0 win in Marseille). Curiously, FF' s hand was shaking as for Platini's beginnings too (Plantini).

Etoile d'Or : Bruno Martini, Auxerre goalkeeper (2).

I had to check that goal with the head by Desailly (in 91-92) and... he did not jump that high but attacked the ball aggressively, coming like a cannonball. It's more like this. It's a bit the same on his second goal and again, it's better to watch : in the second half, since 5:50 for the goals www.youtube.com/watch?v=QGdJH9vTOr8 since 4:04 for the beautiful second half of Nantes.

Day #14 : Franck Lebœuf, Strasbourg v Caen, 3-0 (3 goals, 2 pk's. 1 'pk assist' on the second goal. The 3rd goal comes in the following of a penalty miss from Baills, who had obtained it)

Day #15 : François Lemasson, Auxerre v Cannes, 0-0 (Cannes GK, 5 actions are noticed. In no order : a save on his line, a "lightning intervention in the feet", a save on a long-range shot... in sum, a variety of actions)

Day #23 : Nicolas Ouédec, Nantes v Bordeaux, 4-1 (1 goal, involved in another one when the GK released the ball on one of his shots)

Day #34 : Bruno N'Gotty, Lyon v Bordeaux, 4-2 (DM. 2 goals. 1-1 : after having recovered the ball at midfield he takes support on two partners to find the way of the goals. 2-1 : Gava scores after the GK released the ball on a 25 meters powerful shot by N'Gotty. 3-1 : he's at the reception of a ck clearance, at the 25 meters, and scores from there)

To make it clearer on Zavarov/ Tarasiewicz, Tarasiewicz played upfront at times, like in this match, but was not a forward primarly. that's what I meant.
