Ha ha, very funny, jacknut. Except the Naperville pitch isn't the FIFA-approved Field Turf, but rather an inferior product that call itself "SafePlay"....although I'm sure Wolff would have a few choice words for the ad wizards that came up with that one. Anways, what's a Metrostars fan living in south Florida doing commenting on a field surface in Seattle? I mean, who are these people?
So you're saying that Paul Allen paid Doug Logan to promise us an MLS expansion team, all in an effort to trick the Seattle soccer voters into believing the soccer aspect of the Seahawks Stadium plan was legit and thus secure the needed votes to pass the iniative? Again, who are these people?
Hmm. Finley was probably the most hated owner in the history of sports. I remember a game where the A's had about 600 fans attend. Seriously, it was well under 1000.
I think you're referring to the time period after the team moved to Oakland. I don't think it was so bad in KC, until he decided to move the team. He was all the time theatening to move to Denver during the last part of his reign in Oakland.
The above about Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank. I realize this thread has already been beaten to death, but this link reminded me of the above quote. http://atlanta.bizjournals.com/atlanta/stories/2002/08/26/story1.html There may be some marketing lessons for MLS in here. . .
SafePlay is not FieldTurf. For some quotes about the FieldTurf in Seattle and soccer being played there: http://archives.seattletimes.nwsour...lay?slug=turf28&date=20010928&query=Fieldturf http://archives.seattletimes.nwsour...y?slug=turfed01&date=20011001&query=Fieldturf http://archives.seattletimes.nwsour...stadiumsoccer04&date=20020804&query=Fieldturf http://archives.seattletimes.nwsour...slug=sounders12&date=20020712&query=Fieldturf
2006? By then MLS will be long bankrupt....from the boredom of eight teams playing against each other again and again and again and again.
Re: Re: 4 more team to be added? As issoccer...but not consistently. In any given year, a Philadelphia team has led the NASL or MISL or NPSL in attendance. In another year, they are at the bottom and fold. There's an easy explanation for this, but I'll spare you. Bottom line..Philadelphia will passionately support an MLS team. One small correction to Bill's quote: the Sixers have never been passionately supported. Ever. In fact, pro basketball has generally been ignored in Philadelphia (remember, the Golden State Warriors moved out of Philly). The current crowds are Iverson supporters--a significant difference.
actually the beat don't play at bobby dodd anymore because tech is expanding the stadium in the football offseason last year and next year, which would make it impossible for the beat to play there due to construction.
What year in betweeen now and 2006 will another round of contraction happen? I just want to make sure when I need to buy my Earthquakes collectors' items, before they're never made again. Thanks for showing up. Now leave.
