Was gonna go over this weekend, but balked just before securing my flight. No biggie, I'll go in the Fall. But now I've looked, only to see that Wednesday @MKDons and Crewe @Wednesday have gone from Friday and Monday, respectively, to Saturday and Tuesday. What makes this interesting is that Spurs v Brighton has been designated as the early Prem game on Saturday, and Wednesday @MK is a late kickoff. So that's 5.5 hours between the final whistle at Spurs and kickoff in MK. Plenty of time, then, to get from the Lane to St Pancras, up to MK, and neck a pint with Owls before kickoff. That would've been one fookin' brilliant Saturday.
With Wycombe, Sunderland, and Oxford all winning today, getting something from MKDons away is now a bit more important. Not literally imperative, perhaps, but a loss, combined with results elsewhere, will definitely ramp up the pressure a bit.
Agreed but a win sure would be nice. We're in 7th and if you'd have asked would I be happy with finishing 7th back in December I'd have been ecstatic. Now I'd have to say I'd be disappointed without at least making the playoffs. This is pretty much our season since January 3rd... and no I don't want to fire Darren Moore....
Anyone wanting Moore out at this point in the season would be out of his mind. That said, if he doesn't bring them in 6th or higher, it'll be an issue.
Sadly I think the call for him to be fired is always going to right under the surface. I feel like we know what he can do now given the talent. So next season. even if we have to rebuild just a tad, hopefully we won't, it won't be an issue.
1 Bailey Peacock-Farrell 16 Harlee Dean 2 Liam Palmer 38 Jordan Storey 17 Fisayo Dele-Bashiru 14 George Byers 10 Barry Bannan 18 Marvin Johnson 32 Jack Hunt 9 Lee Gregory 24 Saido Berahino SUBSTITUTES 7 Olamide Shodipo 4 1 Nathaniel Mendez-Laing 3 Jaden Brown 20 Florian Kamberi 28 Joe Wildsmith 13 Callum Paterson 22 Cheyenne Dunkley No Hutch and no Luongo. Not good.
Berahino off a nice set piece move straight from the training pitch. Keeper should've done better, but it's 1-0 to Wednesday early.
"If ya don't f*ckin' bounce ... if ya don't f*ckin' bounce you're a blade". Quite loud from the away support. Nice one. And now it's the 'boxing day' song. They're loud.
Holy frijoles! Bannan from a full 40-45 yards out. Brilliant. Their keeper is having a 'mare. Still brilliant, though. 3-0 a half hour in.
Nervy at the end, but a 3-2 win sees Wednesday back into the playoff places. Really, really good result today.
Tuesday v Crewe is huge. Bottom of the table and already down, so nothing to play for. This is essentially Wednesday's game in hand, and while it's not literally essential, taking all three points would make things much, much less tense going into the final three games. Today was massive.
At 32 and still under contract for another year, I wouldn't think so. He's been in the prem before. With Villa when he was quite young and with Palace seven or eight years back. I think he may have played a bit at Villa, but he struggled for games at Palace.* The third tier isn't where Prem clubs do their fishing, for the most part. It's a pretty big jump. Super-promising young talent, maybe, but not 30+ mids. And even if I could stretch my imagination enough to envision a prem club interested, it'd have to be as depth coverage and on a free. I can't imagine a first-tier club paying a fee for someone like Bannon, even if he might still be able to play at that level (which is frankly doubtful). *I saw Palace at Spurs while he was there and he didn't even make the bench. He may have been injured, I suppose, but I don't think so. They loaned him out a couple months later in the January window.
Wycombe losing and Sunderland and Plymouth drawing (against each other) at around the hour mark. Those will be two solid results for Wednesday if they hold up.
