This always gets me a little bit excited, until I remember it matters so little teams will trade pretty much any first round pick for the equivalent of an international slot. Still riveted as if I'm watching the lotto numbers roll in.
Guys the MLS mock draft predicted to go high who haven't yet been chosen: Stephen Annor Gyamfi (Forward, Virginia - GA) Femi Awodesu (Center back, Penn State) Jacob Murrell (Forward, Georgetown) Jason Shokalook (Forward, Akron) Edit: DC predicted to take Nate Jones, already chosen CB.
an interesting bit from Goff tweet He has not signed with the league, though, and could remain in school
do draftees in MLS and other sports usually sign before being drafted? I am used to hearing reports of being drafted but then having contract negotiations...
Is this code for "they pounded six beers at the bar and are now ready to make enthusiastic speeches about the picks"?
He played for the Annapolis NPSL team this past summer and looked really good. Obviously a lower level of competition but he definitely stood out.
[Tom Bogert] Sources: D.C. United has acquired center back Garrison Tubbs from Atlanta United. Deal around $125k GAM with another $150k GAM add-ons. Tubbs just signed a homegrown deal with Atlanta last week. Would have been a top pick at the SuperDraft today if eligible. Sources: D.C. We missed Aldair Sanchez, LM/LB, picked 20th in the 2nd. He's under contract with Sacramento FC, so technically we just hold his MLS rights. I... Can find nothing in particular to recommend him except that he played 1600 total minutes for his USLC side last year. He was at UNC for two years prior and a Timbers academy product before that. Seems like a play to allow us to add a player entirely off the books..? 0 goals 2 assists in all comps. I don't really get this one. Break glass in case of emergency.
I feel bad for Crockett Tubbs and his parents; you usually let your kid sign a home-grown deal to stay local - not to be sold off to some outfit from up north.
