After sitting around all of 2022 mildly grinding my teeth at the continuing 2021 Not Rapids Related Stuff thread, I'm taking the initiative a few hours early to start a 2023 thread so I don't send another of my dentist's kids to med school. The things I go through being a pedant...
For those Wondering, WSJ has an Article on Budweiser handled the WC beer ban. https://www.wsj.com/articles/how-bu...-free-world-cup-11675899890?mod=hp_listc_pos3 For those wondering, the Beer is still there and they are still trying to figure out where to send it "locally".
I briefly coached McCain Clarke at Real CO just after his family first moved to Broomfield from PHX. He quickly rose the ranks at Real to the USSDA / ECNL teams. Very talented. Great kid. I bumped into him last summer and he had just gotten back from training with a couple of U19/20 teams from Germany. I thought he was headed off to a decent D1 school. Nonetheless, I’m happy for him. I hope he makes his mark at the Hailstorm.
First home goal in St. Louis' new stadium scored by none other than our good friend Owen Goal. I find this endlessly amusing.

Losing in the CCL last year wasn't great, but at least we didn't go to the Dominican Republic to play a Haitian team and lose 3-0 like Austin just did...
Some personal news: Tomorrow is my last day at The Athletic. I'm moving to a job outside of journalism, but I'm so, so thankful for my time at the publication and in this business.— Sam Stejskal (@samstejskal) March 9, 2023
Welp, with Stejskal leaving journalism, that wipes out basically 25% of the journalists covering MLS in a serious way. (I'm being a bit hyperbolic, but only a bit)
He’s the Most Popular President In the World. Everyone Hates Him. – Mother Jones Interesting article on Gianni Infantino with one of the great lines of all time: "with dark eyebrows and an intensely round, perfectly bald head, like a soccer ball that had a dream of becoming an accountant."
Let's talk about St. Louis. If you haven't watched them yet, you should. 15 points off of 5 games in their expansion year, and only the third team to do so all time. Perhaps there should be more women in ownership in this league? I nominate Pat Stryker for Rapids ownership!

POV: You're Chris Klein and you're wondering just how royally you've fucked up an entire franchise. This is humiliating. The fact that it reached this point is HILARIOUS. https://t.co/trFG1foq9X— Juanners (@Juanners715) April 16, 2023
LIGUE 1 REFS MIC'D UP 🇫🇷🎙 Fascinating video that captures what's really said between refs, players and coaches in a match during heat of battle. Even limited access like this helps humanize officials. Hopefully more on the horizon.pic.twitter.com/8TeYiumR2Z— Men in Blazers (@MenInBlazers) April 18, 2023
Best is rugby where the "ref" is miked up and on the TV broadcast. Absolutely hysterical some of the things said to and by them.
ESPN on Twitter: "The 2023 USWNT World Cup roster is set Will this squad three-peat? https://t.co/fC1PXUcUee" / Twitter USWNT World Cup roster, think CO is down to just Lindsey Horan The CU player Taylor ? was a surprise drop from what I have seen
Taylor Kornieck - for the WWC, FIFA sets rosters at 23. Looks like Andonovski feels more comfortable with Savannah DeMelo despite her never have been capped. Had FIFA allowed 26 on the roster perhaps she would have made it.
FIFA announces that the new and expanded 32-team FIFA Club World Cup in 2025 will be held in the United States 🇺🇸The USA is now set to host the Copa América in 2024, FIFA Club World Cup in 2025, and the FIFA World Cup in 2026! 🏆 pic.twitter.com/bWMz6EZmVs— FOX Soccer (@FOXSoccer) June 23, 2023
It's serving as the dry run for the world cup, a la the confederations cup of cycles past, so I can't imagine denver gets any games. Either way will be great to have all those matches state side
Real CO U17 are playing in the Finals of MLS NEXT playoffs against LA Galaxy in Dallas.. 2-2 at the half on Apple TV. Pretty to cool to see a two players that I’ve coached play in such a big match. Great representation for Colorado.
