After firing their coach before qualifying for the knockouts on the last day of the first round.

CIV contemplating hiring Herve Renard (who has been in attendance of many games) for the game against Senegal.

AFCON is indeed insane. What a crazy story that would be.

Renard coached Zambia to their shock afcon victory over CIV.

He then coached CIV to the title 3 years later.

I was obviously not in the same picture as you. I watched Senegal playing badly against Togo and Chad very lately. I didn't double check the lineups. It seems these were games where they didn't field their strongest eleven. My concern was that an ageing midfield of Kouyate and Idrissa Gana Gueye would be past it and would put Senegal's campaign in danger. However it turns out that they have fresh young talent who replaced these two players. With a rejuvenated midfield Senegal look as good as ever. I have them now down as one the big favourites to go all the way.

    Nigeria 2 Cameroon 0

A tight match, but we did what we had to. Very solid defensive display again.

I hope we both make it.

Would be a fantastic encounter. We haven't played for a long time. Since Jay Jay Okocha I think.

Time for your revenge on South Africa, if you even consider that meaningless match you lost, in need of revenge.

Egypt are out. Means unlike last time out I can't get the AFCON winner right this time.

Mohamed Salah is running out of time. He has how many AFCONs left in him? 1 or 2?

He's not going to win it.

Egypt aren't good enough. They drew their way to the finals last time, and this time another 4 straight draws, against weaker opponents. If Ghana didn't implode in injury time in every single one of their matches, Egypt is out in the first round.

His time to win was 2017. Actually Salah should be more concerned with whether he will get to play in another World Cup.

Your pick for third crashed out finishing last in their group. I predicted Tunisia would crash out, but not finish last.

Also Senegal look good. If they can get beyond CIV, they should make the final to play either Nigeria or Morocco. I think Nigeria tbh.

You made your Tunisia to crash out prediction after they lost to Namibia on matchday 1.
So not exactly the boldest of predictions you gave.

yeah I believe last time was 20 years ago in the group phase of the AFCON, Morocco won 1 - 0 and went to the final.
I am quite optimistic about South Africa, the fact we lost last time in the qualifiers will be useful though Bounou, Amrabat, Ounahi and Boufal were missing.

Cape Verde advance to the next round. They have Been one of the teams at the tournament so far. If Morocco win against South Africa then they play eachother. It wont be a walk over for Morocco

    Unbelievable !!!

    CIV beat Senegal on penalties.

I knew this would happen, after Morocco gave them a lifeline and beat Zambia

Equatorial Guinea that caused this matchup, are out. Senegal the best team after the first round are out. What a terrible prize for being the best team of the first round.

What a turnaround for CIV. My pick to win the tournament have a clear path to the final.

Football is crazy sometimes. They shouldnt even be here. And poor Eq. Guinea who smashed them 4-0 are out. They where 10 men, missed a penalty and conceided in minut 98. Football is cruel sometimes

    Football is cruel.

But CIV have proven they should be here by knocking out the best team in the first round. Thoroughly deserved.

It was divine intervention that CIV qualified for the knockouts, and they took advantage of their second life.

Cruel for Senegal too. They didn't deserve to meet CIV that early. That should have been a semi final at least.

Didn't expect Morocco to lose here, but the signs were already there in the group stage. They looked really unconvinced besides the Tanzania game, which was, arguably, the worst team on paper in the AFCON.

I now expect a Nigeria vs Ivory Coast showdown but given the way things are going, I am now ready to expect a DR Congo vs Cape Verde final

For me Cap Verde has maybe Been the most impressive team so far. They play som good football.
Mali and Nigeria have both Been very stabile and also played some good football.
Angola has surprised me the most. They have gotten some really impressive results.
Maybe we Will see a portugeese speaking country in the final.
I just hope a New team Wins it this time
