We had a good start of the game but I feel like those stoppages broke our rythm and we lost our momentum. Ennesyri missed too many chances then DR Congo got a PK and though they missed it I think it was a turning point. From there they kinda started to believe the game can be flipped while we started to doubt.

Complete chaos for the hosts here. Feels even worse somehow than straight elimination. Still have a remote chance of qualifying as a best-third-place team and still having to show up for training and check other scores every day...

Apparently CIV had a higher Xgoals and still lost 4-0.

It was just one of those days where everything went right for one team, and everything went wrong for the other.

    E. Guinea showed how to properly kill teams off with the counter.

    This is just shocking.

Equatorial Guinea and Cape Verde are the most underrated teams in Africa. They always seem to get decent results against bigger teams but never get the recognition. Keep an eye on both of Them in the World cup qualifiers

Crazy that Nsue is the topscorer of This tournament

    I agree.

You said earlier that EG would qualify for the WC over Tunisia. I didn't agree.

But I think I agree now. Tunisia is in trouble with this team.

Cape Verde I also think will beat out Cameroon for the World Cup.

Yea but as you pointed out, Will they be able to keep the consistensy. Will they win the tough away matches. It looks good now, but what about in a year? It will be tough for both of Them, but I do believe that EG and Cape Verde Will compete for that World cup squad. And I hope they manage to do it

Congrats Mauritania. And what a disappointment Algeria. Twice in a row they are knocked out in the group stages. And they didnt even win one single match this time or last time

I think its goodbye the coach and many of the old players

I know people don't like all these continental tourneys expanding to 24 teams (Gold Cup might need a few years or a bunch of invitees) but it's nice how nearly every team goes into the final matchday with something to play for. Even at the top of the group, where first place is extra-valuable when you're more likely to end up with a best-third-placed team in the knockouts

I have to question the fitness of the Ghana players as their mistakes after the 75th minute cost them making the second round. Y'all see the Ghana media laying into the players as they head for the bus. Second straight tournament where the last group match game was a must win and they failed.

So Ivory Coast through to the 2nd round to meet Senegal in a thriller.

These were my top 2 picks to win the tournament. CIV now has 4 full days to train and get their heads back into this tournament.

I think they can beat Senegal. It will be a back and forth match and nothing like Equatorial Guinea.

After the first round matches to me Senegal and Morocco seem the best teams. But Morocco seems to fall off badly in the 2nd half. I'm guessing they are saving themselves, but against tougher opposition they are very vulnerable with that kind of 2nd half performance.

Nigeria has a decent chance too. I had no expectations for them before this tournament, but they are definately one of the more solid sides.

I'd say one of Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria , and YES CIV wins this.

Nigeria has a decent shot of reaching the semi finals, as they have to Beat Cameroun and the winner of Angola and Namibia. No match is easy in Africa, but that is a very good Road, compared to many of the other teams.

Also one of Egypt, Guinea, Eq. Guinea, and DR Congo will reach the semifinals. If it isnt Egypt, then we will see an underdog in the semifinals.

    Completely wrong in this prediction.

Senegal the only team that won all 3 games. They won each game by at least 2 goals, and have scored the second most goals in the first round.

All this with Mane having a very average tournament so far.

Unfortunately for them, their reward is CIV, who will want to prove their previous result a fluke.

I have to stick with my earlier prediction.

CIV will beat Senegal and go on to win the cup after losing 4-0 at home to Equatorial Guinea, and sneaking through to the 2nd round.

next phase is like a new tournament, CIV are in the survivor's skin and they can indeed upset the best team in the group phase.
I remember in last AFCON Nigeria got 9 pts in the group phase and got eliminated by Tunisia
Morocco in the previous one had 9 pts in the group phase and got eliminated by Benin
