That proposed 3 DPs and 3 U22-I spots without restrictions is how it should have been since the beginning. Never going to understand the necessity of putting roadblocks. This will look like a "change".
By the way, who the hell is José Roberto Nuñez? He claims to he the "Philadelphia Union beat reporter" but for whom? I get the sense he's just a freelance journalist who's making up a title. I'm sure he has some sources, or "folks well-versed on the CBA." But all it really takes to achieve that level of "insider knowledge" is to read it here: https://mlsplayers.org/resources/cba Fully downloadable in English, Portuguese, French and Spanish. It was just a few weeks ago that conventional wisdom was sure that MLS would add a 4th DP because of some social media post by a person named Caleb Pongratz, a 21 year old student at Suffolk University. Then, at MLS Cup, Garber says the league never even consdiered doing so. But...but, I read it on the internet... Presumably, we'll know soon enough if there are changes to the roster rules for next season. Three years into the current CBA, MLS has stayed the course thus far. Maybe they loosen things up a bit, in the margins (if you actually read the CBA, it spells out what the league's flexibility in this area actually is and how it needs to communicate these decisions with the MLSPA), but I'd be shocked if the changes were all that substantial or as meaningful as they initially might appear. Maybe I'll be proven wrong. We'll see.
He's a Union beat reporter, he attends press conferences, and does post game interviews with players in spanish. Has been for a few years now.
What does that even mean? A Union beat reporter for what media company? Who signs his paycheck? He's not a Union employee. Doesn't seem to have a LinkedIn profile. And, unless I'm missing something, doesn't appear to be an actual journalist, except maybe as a freelancer or someone who works (for free?) for a local soccer site or something. I'm just curious, beyond X/Twitter, where this guy has any presence on the internet. If he's a "beat reporter" that implies he writes stories. Where? Or does he just post to his own social media account?
Welcome to 2023. There are a ton of "beat writers" who only write for online sites now. I certainly would call Matt Pollard a beat writer for the Rapids, but he only writes for Burgundy Wave (formerly a SB Nation site, now independent).
Same in Foxboro. Under SB Nation they were the Bent Musket, now the Blazing Musket. Since the Boston newspapers can't be bothered to do more than a puff piece on the Revs, most of our info comes from these independent reporters.
Weird I must either have them all muted or there is no "full meltdown". That or the twitter algorithm has finally stopped trying to raise my blood pressure
Pretty much every account with MLS in their name that has about a 50/50 breaking to fake news ratio is melting down. And the usual MLS haters masquerading as usmnt fans. Are there other types of MLS fans on Twitter? The algorithm must be hiding them from me lol
As somebody who has a MLS focused Twitter account I'm not seeing any of this. But then you've always been unable to break through Twitter's 'sky is falling' algorithm.
This might actually be the biggest surprise signing of the offseason, in light of the drama earlier in the year. https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/atlanta-united-sign-goalkeeper-josh-cohen
MLS haters which many are USMNT fans and/or Pro/Rel zealots aren't watching MLS. MLS fans that do watch MLS and want the league to make changes, well, continuing with the same status quo is underwhelming. If MLS isn't willing to change after they brag about the value of each franchise, the price of a franchise fee,,TV deals, having Messi bring in attention to the league, attendance etc then they'll never do it.
People don't seem to believe the "meltdown I am seeing" so I paste these without any endorsement. It’s still not official yet but if these are the rule changes MLS makes after a record setting year for the league then Don Garber should be forced to resign immediately. This is embarrassing and very uninspiring. This league is so damn scared to take the training wheels off.— MLS Moves (@MLSMoves) December 14, 2023 Club America recently spent $10 million on a right back, Chivas $6m on a defensive midfielder and Tigres has a $16 million center back pairing..But it’s alright, MLS is raising the TAM threshold by $400k!!!! 🥰— MLS Buzz (@MLS_Buzz) December 14, 2023 MLS brings Messi, has the 2026 World Cup coming to its country 🇺🇸 and the 2025 Club World Cup in the 🇺🇸Yet the league shows no ambition in terms of maximizing what could be the perfect storm for massive growth. If you ever wondered what the priorities of MLS were, now you…— Tactical Manager (@ManagerTactical) December 14, 2023 Comments show the extent of the meltdown.
I'm assuming he's talking about MLS Moves and Tactical Manager, both of which are clickbait rage farms.
Well, I got 2 of 3 and I really should have gotten MLS Buzz as well, but I forgot about them. To which I say, LOL. Those accounts and their followers are not representative of MLS fans.
