Yeah... he was caught higher up the field when the long ball was played. My point was that it happens all the time and nobody says a word. For some reason Antonee Robinson is blasted for it when he actually recovered from the play and went on to have a very good game. I wonder if it is a coincidence that he is dual national who plays in England. Off the top of my head, I can think of two examples in the Hex in games that people often discuss. Gonzalez on the first goal at Costa rica and Villafana on the first goal at Trinidad. The big difference is that the competition was weaker and Gonzo and Villafana didnt care enough to even try. The narrative on those games are that the team quit/Brooks was awful and Arena shouldnt have run out the same lineup.
Look at Robinson giving up on the France goal. That's a non starter for me. Have fun in Milan. Send me a postcard. Enjoy the chicken Milanese. No guts, no old glory.
Sandler is Philippe Sandler. ManCity Loan Army central defender, starter at Anderlecht until he got injured. I would say that puts him at least in the same category as Miazga, CCV, Zimmermann, etc. I haven't seen him play. But I have seen the other guys play. And Berhalter bringing Alvarado back into the fold means he's considering all options at center back.
The boring ones: Steffen Dest Brooks Sandler (or Otasowie or RIchards) Robinson or Cannon Yueill Adams McKennie Pulisic Reyna Crapshoot
I mean if people really want Sam Vines, then who am I to say no. But with Dest able to play both sides, and either Acosta or Arriola able to play in a pinch, then I would rather take a guy who actually has some tools that will contribute, rather than just being a guy who I am hoping won't get beat too badly.
https://www.espn.com/soccer/united-...nrad-de-la-fuente-usmnt-can-win-the-world-cup Delusional thinking....
Do you think before Greg LeMond won world cycling titles he had the attitude that he had no chance? What about the female gymnasts that always finished behind iron curtain countries? No - Americans dream big even when they've never done something.
I think the team can win. We have at least 4 guys who are potentially top shelf that we know of right now. We have a few more players with CL level talent. We have a young forward who's scored at a pretty good clip in the BL as a youngster, even if he hasn't taken off like the others. We have a keeper who is pretty decent. We probably have more guys on the way. And we have several center backs ..... But seriously, I think at home, with a core of Dest, Pulisic, Reyna, and Adams ..... you could build a champion around that team.
Over the years, we've had pools with decent shouts at strong Quarters/Semi runs. There was the '02 pool that made Quarters and played quite well against Germany. There was the '10 group that defeated mighty Spain in the Confederations. Major injuries marred the pool's WC potential. Davies got into that accident. Onyewu tore his patellar tendon. Nigel de Jong broke Stuart Holden's leg---in a friendly!!! Jermaine Jones hadn't recovered from his tiba fracture. Still, Edu instead of Clark then we win that game against Ghana! The '14 guys took a golden generation Belgium team to extra time. JK set up the team too aggressively. And he JK started Zusi to man a flank against Eden Hazard and Jan Vertonghen. It's like that match against Costa Rican, in which Brian Oviedo fathered Zusi, didn't happen. The vapor fumes of the '14 pool also made semis of the Copa Centanario. The current pool is shaping up nicely. Plenty of time before the WC, however.
Plenty of time...…...not really. Another thing to consider: Berhlater's cookie cutter isn't changing. It's just luck of the draw which player gets better/worse in that particular cookie cutter, which may not change over time. .
Yeah, it's fine for us fans to be realistic, but for coaches and players you have to sincerely believe you can win, or it will become a self-fulfilling prophecy that you don't. I remember this argument prior to 2014 when Klinsmann said that the US couldn't win.
6 years from now we’re going to have at least 2 more of that level of “core” player. You can quote me on that. Unfortunately, we are also going to lose at least one of those 6 “core” players to injury.

One thing that we really can't calculate .... how many clubs are going to close in Europe, and how many of those players are going to end up in MLS?
I actually thought this would start happening before this virus because of overreach by many clubs who went bankrupt. Now it will accelerate. Is MLS better off than other leagues? Probably because of the very deep pockets of ownership mixed with actually not missing as much revenue as bigger leagues and therefore bigger demands for money to pay out. When even Barcelona is talking about slashing salaries in half how can the lesser lights not be really hurting?
I can't find anything about Philippe Sandler being eligible for the USMNT. Transfermarkt lists him as only being Dutch, and Wikipedia only shows he's ever played for the Dutch. I'm seeing no references to any eligibility for the US. What am I missing? (honest question)
BL say they are ready to go May 9. There appears to be a state view that large gatherings will have to wait for October. Apparently a big media payment is due https://sbisoccer.com/2020/04/german-bundesliga-ready-to-return-on-may-9 which BL needs to pay creditors. With no spectators, the media revenue will be key for all leagues.
what does this mean for MLS? they were depending upon a big new contract and they owe a “guaranteed” $30m to USSF. when people talk up MLS, they usually lead with how many tickets they sell rather than how many people watch on TV....
Luckily their owners have deep pockets. Which owner (or ownership group) would be the closest to money trouble?
deep pockets only help if the issue is liquidity rather than solvency. Is it a good investment to drop in significant cash if the next TV contract isn’t a large step up and the ability to play in front of large crowds is mitigated? What if new owners aren’t willing to pony up hundreds of millions? MLS had gotten by so far on new team fees and piggybacking on USSF TV fees (although I’m interested to see if the $30m guarantee is actually funded) for the past 10 years or so.
I've been hopeful for Miles Robinson. But I just watched his highlight package from last year. It's a bad sign when half of your highlights seem to be you doing emergency defending to cover for your own glaring errors.
