Anyone notice that France foul inside the box which was ignored by the ref at 9:06? France did same exact thing against England and conceided a penalty but somehow they escape this one.
Yea, like I said, England earned their second penalty after similar push by the French player. However, everytime we have multiple goals lead, the ref always reluctant to gives us a penalty or booked our opponents. Its evident in semi against Croatia where RDP shot hits exactly on Gvardiol's hand, yet Montiel gets punished for that in the final. Thuram for intense, seems to be immune to booking. Also, Griezzman fouled Messi inside the box in WC 2018 and ignored by the ref and VAR.
We were dominated them till they scored their first. Its shame that it went to penalties. Ottamendi should have cleared the ball when got chance .
The only thing yhst upsty me was that we should have knocked Holland and France as we did Croatia. We wasted several great chances v France and Holland. Anyway Newcastle aka Daudi United are interested in Soule. UAE City and Chelsea are all looking at Echeverri, Roberto and Subiabre. The best thing is for yhrse kids to get onto the River first team. Play 50-60 games before even considering a move. I hope River have big release clauses for Agustin and Ian.
One of my favorite clips of Sorin and Pupi celebrating this win as they were one of the players on the pitch. I think all of us, Argentines and those who support the seleccion all felt the same way after Montiel’s penalty. It’s still hard not to get choked up.
I think in time the Argentina v France game will not only go down as the greatest world cup final of all time but one of the greatest sports events in history. Like Ali v Foreman, McEnroe v Borg, Bob Beamon breaking the long jump record, Roger Bannister running the mile in under 4 mins. It will develop it's own mythology. And we will all claim we were actually there
I mean that's cool and all but I would have preferred a casual 3-0 as it should have been like the finalissima. France was completely hopeless, literally took out their entire midfield to play with only strikers. Same vs Holland and Australia. We just were this much better. Scaloni gets so much right with his starting tactics and selection, he is incredible at that. Best we have had by a long shot but his Pekerman like decisions in the second half of these games just invited comebacks. Of course easier said than done when you are playing with as much pressure and trauma as we were but man I would always opt for attack is best defense
ADM staying 20 minutes longer would have been an easy 3-0 victory. At least Scaloni last minute masterstroke just before the shootout managed to saves us. He fielded all our penalty specialists after 90+ minutes (Montiel, Paredes, Dybala). Those 3 literally scores their penalties. Lautaro also came at ET and he has good penalty record for NT. He'd been the 5th kicker if Dibu didnt make any save. Scaloni did not hesitate to eliminates RDP & Enzo who has missed their kicks in their previous attempt. For comparison, Tata picked Biglia in CA 2016 final shootout despite Biglia already missed his penalty in previous tournament. His penalty was the worst in both 2015 & 2016, as he looked scared during the walk. Messi obviously different case, as he's the leader & not afraid to takes the blame if something goes wrong.
In anticipation of the great day tomorrow, a thing from the past for nostalgia. What a memory when this walkout theme was tuned when the players were entering into the field.
A year ago today, I was at the point where I said let’s just get this over with. There is not much more we can do. It was difficult to sleep and whatnot but those three hours of the match felt like an eternity. The PKs felt like another match in itself, when in reality it was a little over five minutes. I still remember everything about that day and I’m glad I got to share a part of it with the BS Argentina family.

I'm not body language expert, but you could see Lloris 100% avoding eye contact with Messi when they shook hand. He looks really tamed throughout the final shootout unlike in previous game against England when he tries to stop Kane's penalty. Messi actually looked visibly nervous before the WC 2014 final. The weight was too much for him. In 2022 WC, he always walked around like a boss , like Diego used to be.
Our players looked pale as they were going to the walkouts. I don't think they're ever going to be this nervous again. They've done it all.
