I saw this elsewhere, but it’s true: everyone talks about Dibu’s legendary last minute save in Kolo Muani play, but hardly anyone mentions Cuti’s header that followed the rebound: 1659257676499656704 is not a valid tweet id It was just as crucial, avoiding Thuram getting a chance at glory. If it wasn’t for Cuti that could have very damn well ended in goal and left us emptyhanded
Well said. It is something I have mentioned as well(A couple pages back) and it is really scary to think about how many things had to go right. The kick- save, the header to clear it away and Otamendi happen to be at the right place and the right time. Kolo Muani just a couple minutes earlier had an opportunity as well, Mbappe sent a cross, and he missed by an inch and Dibu jumped and it looked like it was going in but bounced away. I never want to go through that again.
In all fairness, its definetely scary from our perspective but we outshoot France 20 to 10 and we had 10 shots on target compare to France 5. Messi had 2 great chances later in the game which forced Lloris into making a good saves twice just before he eventually scores his second goal. Alexis also had one great chance, so did Montiel with his desperate volley and Lautaro pulled a Higuain 3 times, including that very last moment of the game. If they could have scored 4, we really could have scored 6-7 in another day. Our countless chances didnt get talk alot because we ended up as the winner, so the narrative of every articles has always been how "France could have won it" if wasnt that Dibu save against Muani.
I've always enjoyed the commentary from the Tanos. You could tell they were riding with us during the final and likely the tournament itself(Where the commentator is stressing the fact).
Speaking of WC final, there's always a crazy twist everytime we won it. 1978 Netherlands tied the game 1-1 near the end normal time before we eventually won it at extra time. 1986 Germany came back from two goals down and made it 2-2 before we eventually won it 5 minutes from time. 2022 France tied the game twice to made it 3-3, we finally won on penalties.
Hopefully we don't do that again. LOL Messi talks about Dibu's save, he didn't even know what happened he mentions. It was all in the moment. 🥹🏆❤️ Leo Messi talking about the World Cup final:“It was special considering the risks and that it was the World Cup final. We played an exceptional 80 minutes and dominated France, but they scored the first and then quickly equalized, even though we won the title we deserved… pic.twitter.com/tU22ywowGM— All About Argentina 🛎🇦🇷 (@AlbicelesteTalk) November 4, 2023

Speaking of a start, we started in worst possible way but ended the tourney with the ultimate trophy.
Feels like yesterday I was staying up watching our first match... Everything after felt like a Final. How time flies.
As you say, seems like yesterday. I remember after the Saudi game and the first half of the Mexico game thinking we're not even going to get out of the group stage and how was I going to process all this. Not that the games against the Dutch and France did much for my sanity or my liver.
I havent born yet in 1978 , but you could imagine the supporter"s reaction when Netherlands hits the post at injury time ? 2022, we got to experience similar feeling. In case anyone here has some spare money...
Football is a game of such close margins isn't it, like you say, Holland hit the post in the last second of nomal time in 1978, that save by Dibu, 3 world cups could have been 1. Also, I'll never slag off VAR, but for that Messi's second goal against France would have been ruled out for offside. I still don't know how I got through extra time against France, well I do, Becks and Vodka.
There's no offside on Messi second goal though. Lautaro was clearly onside on the reply when Messi passed the ball. Even both English commentators agreed right away, its should be a goal. VAR actually missed out Gvarodiol's handball against RDP's shot. As you said, WC final most of the time is a close contest. A 3-0 blow off like 1998 is rare. If Baggio didnt miss his, it could be Italy with 5 stars and Brazil 4 at present. The star on the badge often decided by such small margin.
That was my point, it wasn't offisde, but the assistant ref flagged for offside, pre-VAR that goal would have been ruled out and France would have own 3-2.
To be honest I don't think that was a pen, his arms are close to his body, yeah the ball hits his arm but I don't think there was a signficant movement towards the ball. But really, who cares, we won the world cup
There's another chance earlier in extra time which Dibu blocked a shot and it spilled out from his hand , but Cuti was there to cover the ball.
