The series of tweets which identified Qatar as the location for the playoff games all were derived from a tweet that was erroneous. I believe it's been announced that these are one-off neutral site games, but that the sites have not yet been determined...
Was only going by what Wikipedia said but FIFA did announce changes yesterday and did not specify a location. Seeing as the AFC playoff will be happening in the same window though that's something they'll have to figure out. Yes. And don't ask me how they plan to do that with one of the teams having to go to wherever for a one game playoff for World Cup qualifying.
I see 6 dates listed for CNL. Last time, League A was 4 groups of 3, which only requires 4 dates to complete. And all teams in the current final qualifying round are in League A, so I think there’s some flexibility.
That makes sense. I'd still rather not be the team playing two CNL matches and then having to go play the intercontinental playoff wherever though.
I would think that would be fairly doubtful with Nations League scheduled for June. The only reason we played a friendly before the last Nations League games, was that we had already made the semifinal so the competition was limited to 2 games. I may be remembering incorrectly, but the first round of Nation League games were not surrounded by friendkies.
There are no FIFA dates in July, as European leagues are preparing to start earlier than normal to accommodate the World Cup break.
This is going to be a very interesting World Cup. Previous Cups, we've had some friendlies right before hand. I'm betting there won't be much of that for anyone. I'd lean toward putting bets on teams that have the most players on a single club team.
ELS in Columbus. HON in St. Paul (ha). Sandwiched around a trip to Tim Horton's in Hamilton to play CAN. It's going to be a COLD January.
Officially announced by the CSA. Hamilton it is. https://www.canadasoccer.com/news/c...atar-2022-qualifying-campaign-in-hamilton-on/

I don't want to derail this thread too much but a mildly fun thought experiment is how you handle those Nations Leagues games in September. Let's say hypothetically we're playing to Grenada on what is probably not a particularly good pitch less than 7 weeks before your World Cup camp starts. Do you risk sending your A team to it? With the World Cup being in the winter there's probably not going to be very many tuneup friendlies like you'd get in a normal World Cup. So that would be one of the last chances to get the team reps together.
