Metros probably are all time worst because the league was generally worse. I think, to paraphrase Tolstoy, "all Shield Winners are the same in their happiness, but every Spoon Winner is different in its misery."
Tolstoy rep. Four Spoons isn't a fluke. At some point, they're going to have to retire the damn thing like when they gave Brazil the Jules Rimet trophy.
The only solace I can take in all of this is that the Fire is still in the running with DC United for most wooden spoons despite having 2 less years of existence.
Chicago won last night which puts DC and KC in the driver's seat for the Wooden Spoon at the moment. KC is also in the semis of the Open Cup, which gives them a real opportunity to pull off the Ben Olsen Double. The idea that you could earn your way into the Champions League while simultaneously face-planting your way to the Spoon is a testament to the magic of the game. 2013 was my favorite DCU season ever, no joke.
wow, who knew "Jessica Fletcher" could be so, um, provocative! She is like the 1940's Hannah Montana... amazing how many stars were in that film: Till the Clouds Roll By - Wikipedia
SJ and DC's quest for the spoon took a major hit as they both unexpectedly won a game. As a matter of fact Toronto has fallen into Spoon contention by dropping below those two teams. But with summer reinforcements arriving soon they'll probably not be stuck in the muck for too long. Which leaves Chicago and the Wiz. Chicago got varred out of points and the Wiz just plain ol' sucked. It's starting to feel like a two horse race.
This team already has more standings points than the 2013 team. And it's not like the team didn't lay eggs like last night last year under Losada. Because they definitely did.
Yes, we have more points. But my eyes tell me this team is just as bad as 2013 (at least in the conversation). And we were lucky that we kept them to single digits last night. A 10-0 scoreline would have been a fair result.
You're crazy. This team may well win the Spoon but they're nowhere near as legendarily shitty as 2013. I will remind you that Own Goal was the leading scorer that year. To the best of my knowledge that has never happened before or since in any league on earth.
@Q*bert Jones III is right. This team is nowhere near as bad as the 2013 team, which scored 22 goals ALL SEASON. This team has already eclipsed that number in half the games. The 2022 team at least has legit attacking talent. 2013 featured Kyle Porter, the ghost of Dwayne DeRosario, and a DP in Rafael who scored a wonder goal and then got canned halfway into the season. That miracle Open Cup win (which took penalties to advance out of their first game against a USL side, mind you) doesn't take away from the fact that the team was horrible.
That team was tragic offensively, but better than this one in every other way. I don’t think it’s crazy at all to say this is the worst team, I think it’s at least debatable, particularly since the season is only half over. Plenty of humiliation to look forward to yet. And of course, 2013 won a trophy.
2013 gave up 59 goals, their worst loss 4-0. They kept games close, they simply couldn’t score at all. This team has given up 37 goals with 17 games to play. They are not competitive, they have Taxi but nothing else. They play the worst soccer this league can imagine. Maybe 2013 was worse, but hell no, it’s not crazy at all to place this team in the same toilet.
Comparing '13 and '22 is difficult. As others noted, the '13 team had no offensive ability at all. Was Conor Doyle here then? DeRo was supposed to provide that, but he was past his sell by date and out of the league a year later. But that team at least tried. They scrapped, but were offensively inept, yet won the Cup on a goal from a limited but scrappy Lewis Neal. The '22 team can score, that's not the problem. The problem is that other teams can score and score often. Last night was an embarrassment and shows the bankruptcy of Ashton's coaching "ability." But really, this team has been leaking goals all season, the result in Orlando was a mirage -- Philly got up 3-0 and continued to control the game, in Orlando DCU got up 3-0 and I knew it wasn't over with this bunch. How many teams can turn a 3-0 halftime lead into a nail biter? I think the '22 team, right now, is worse than '13 because it has no heart. Last night looked like 11 losers on the bus to Palookaville. The '13 team would have been forced onto that bus kicking and screaming.
Taxi scoring goals is becoming the equivalent of the US Open Cup in 2013. Scoring easy goals against shit MLS defenses gives the FO cover every few games to say things aren’t so bad and they can turn it around. Meanwhile Taxi is probably in active talks to leave.
C'mon, where's the hate for the 2010 team? Just 21 goals and 22 points over 30 games. We won the Spoon with 6 points to spare...and no trophy, or Taxi-equivalent offensive fireworks. The sadness of a washed-up Jaime starting most of those games just to pad his (then) record after he announced mid-season that he would be retiring.
You're right. DCU has dropped a plethora of turds over the years, hard to choose which one is the stinkiest.
Why is the 2022 Race for the Spoon thread called the "Other Teams" thread? After all, who's really gonna pose a challenge to DCU here?
While last night felt like a declaration of intent, we’re actually only the third worst team in the league, as of now.
