The Fire paid quite a bit of MLS funny money for Mueller, but it seems like a pretty good move.
According to transfermarkt.com, his market value is north of $3,000,00, and it was a free transfer from Hibs. That's a good piece of business.

To acquire the MLS priority for Mueller, the Fire sent $500,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) – $250,000 in 2022 GAM and $250,000 in 2023 GAM – to Orlando City SC. Additionally, Orlando City will receive the Fire’s natural first round selection in the 2023 MLS SuperDraft and the MLS discovery rights to an unnamed player. Orlando will also retain a percentage of any future transfer fee for Mueller and could receive an additional $150,000 in GAM if he achieves certain performance-based metrics with the Fire.

  2. I take Transfermarkt values with a grain of salt, but that seems like a lot of stuff to send Orlando's way. He better provide value for that.

Agreed on both counts. Transfermarkt generally overvalues players, but at it least it's "something"?

It is true that we did not pay Hibs anything.
That was in the press release.

    $300,000 or $3M? I assume $300,000.

Transfermarkt has his value at $3.85MM if that's what you're asking.

    Edited for grammar

Which would make him the 4th most valuable player on the team after Shaqiri, Jairo, and Fede. He's just ahead of Przybylko, GAGA, and Gimenez.

7 of our 9 most valuable players transferred in this year. The two others are Gaga and Gimenez.

Got it. I misread and thought that was the GAM/TAM we paid.

Knowing that Heitz discounts MLS talent/history, it's not surprising to see him give away funny money and draft picks. That's fine with me as it seems like he's still valued more than whatever GAM/TAM we're sending to Orlando, BUT I would think the Fire wouldn't have had to give up the rights to future transfer fees as well. That seems a bridge too far to me.

Chris Mueller is a decent soccer player. No doubting that. For his sake, I just hope that he has changed as a person over the years. Not someone I had much respect for.

  11. It's probably a percentage like 10%. Heitz was desperate. Let's hope we don't consider this a fleecing in the end.

Heitz likes to pander to the Swiss? There is plenty of talent in Poland for sure.

Didn't the fire try for Kamil Jóźwiak and Karol Świderski and were shot down? I had a sense that Polish players didn't really want to come to the fire. They were connected to others like Kuba in the past and were declined.

No, Jóźwiak wanted to come to the Fire but we're not looking in that direction. Polish players jump at the chance to come to Chicago.

Another situation where I heard of he were to come to MLS, it would be in LA or Miami.

Anybody know if Torres has been training this week?

  22. He was reported training on the side and may get some minutes against Cincinnati. Gimenez trained, no word on Kasper.

What kind of transfer fee would Lewandowski command this summer? I'm assuming he told Bayern he wouldn't resign so they could sell him now and recoup some money. Is this even remotely possible for the Fire?
