Super ball by Teze. Excellent switch of field ball by Gutierrez to Bakayoko who did well to draw 2 defenders.
PSV were so bad on the day but they took the three chances on goal and converted. Monaco hit the post three times but just couldn't score. On to the next round against Gio's Rangers who overcame a two goal deficit to win their tie 3-2.
After being knocked out while being better against Benfica last season and the year before against I forgot, they now move on while playing second fiddle. The tension got hold on Gakpo and Veerman, as both were not good, and I'm being kind.
Rewatch the match and count the number of times he lost the ball. He was a key figure in the dominance of Monaco. Thanks to the missed chances by Monaco PSV survived.
Veerman is also pretty slow and can't play at this level. I honestly don't think he is NT material. Decent for the Eredivisie but that's it; I don't see any higher league possbility.
It looked to me that Gakpo would rather be at ManU or Arsenal right now. He was not terribly interested in the match. Credit to Ruud for a great beard and some nice stroking of it while he 'thought' about the game.
Luukinho transfered to PSV for €4 million. By advancing today PSV earn €5 million, so they essentially got him for free. If PSV beat Rangers they will receive €35 million
I'm not sure if you are painting the right picture here. Veerman runs less. He plays on the ball more and opens up the game with his passes. Just like pirlo. Both Berghuis and klaassen are experienced players but come nowhere to this. Neither they cant hold the ball for long. Also both are slow in their own rights and how they play. If all were playing the same position then it would have made it more logical to compare them. I also remember the same critics when he was at Heerenveen and now when he is delivering it on big stage , again same thing. I mean it has to be gradually steps and that's What I'm noting about Veerman. His still has rough edges but that obivously can be polished and that's What playing at CL or EL can bring. Also playing in double pivot role is something that will defintely take time especially you havnt played it. This is something that will take this guy far compared to other dutch midfielders who were grommed in 4-3-3 and struggled abroad in different roles.
exactly. After the match was over and the players were going around thanking the supporters he seemed very disengaged and I thought that was telling.
comparing Veerman to Pirlo is laughable. Veerman was a failure at Heerenveen every time they faced one of the top four Eredivisie teams. He just could not adjust his game and his lack of quickness made him an easy press target. No way that he is in de Jong or Koopmeiner's class and I don't think he will ever be. I don't know whether Fitz-Jim, currently at Jong Ajax but played on the first team in pre-season, has the physical tools but right now he is miles above Veerman in ball handling and passing. Veerman will snatch an occasional goal but really does not have a defined position. He's not a #10 or a BTB player and only can function in a double pivot.
They were pretty bad, especially the play-by-play guy. Kept referring to Glasgow Rangers as "The Rangers" and referring to the goalkeeper as "the netminder". smh Must know or be related to someone of note to get that job as he clearly doesn't follow the sport closely. Sounded like Max Bretos son actually. lol
Well done FC Twente. Easy win today to move on in the Conference League. Move to the Playoff Round and take on Fiorentina.
