320? For Cattaragus County? Perhaps its the casino in Salamanca or the year-round fun in Ellicotville.

Got my first speeding ticket in Olean. Probably because sped up thanking God I didn't go to school there while driving to Chautauqua County from the NYC area.

He hasn’t had a winning season since 2017, although in 2018 they went .500 and made it to the conference finals, had a really good conference run that year.
But between 2019 and 2022 they only won 23 games, all losing seasons, and I guess the expectations are higher then that, realistic or not.

think also a new AD from who hired him, so that usually is a problem if you have a bad season and your contract is up.

There aren’t many miracle workers that can win without support in terms of scholarships and staff. That AD is likely to find themselves in the same situation in a couple of years.

Is St. Bonaventure fully funded in W Soccer? 14 full scholarships and 2 full time Asst’s ? A-10 is a much improved conference

No, only 1 ft paid assistant thats pay is terrible. Don’t know if their fully funded scholarships wise. Looking at their schedule, lots of regional travel so can’t say huge budget.

Yep. Part-time assistant pay is a real recruiting killer. It means your assistants are likely working club jobs too, which suck up their weekends with games and travel. It makes it hard for a school like Coastal to get eyes on kids from Atlanta, Richmond, Charlotte, Raleigh etc - and just as importantly, for those kids to see them showing the love at tournaments and games.

Don't overlook that they have overlooked SC kids!! 1 SC kid on the roster this year, you can count on one hand the others in years past. Are SC kids world beaters, not necessarily, but you have 2 ECNL clubs and a competitive Charleston area...these kids are "cheaper" than going for internationals and out-of-staters that COST MORE MONEY!!! He mis-managed the situation, he can whine all about it that's his prerogative!

No less than 3 SC United ECNL players have committed to USC for 2023...none were ever contacted by CCU in the recruiting process!

To be fair, if they’re looking at USC, they aren’t looking at CCU. You can spin your wheels chasing players you aren’t getting or try to do the best you can with a realistic roster and THEN go after those kids.

True...none of the 3 will see the field for USC...starters at CCU, squad players at USC. I get the mystique of "being on the team", but a better recruiter could have coaxed them into playing time/significant role at CCU than riding the bench at USC. Appeal to the player's ego!

CCU is an Easy Sell to kids above DC or so who fall in love with the idea of going to a "Southern" school at the beach. Same reason they don't have to pay coaches very well to live and work there. UNCW has a similar draw, FGCU, etc. Some schools are actually near the beach, not just pretending to be.

It's so funny though when they realize on their one day off - which is usually a Monday, they don't want to go to the beach. They want to do homework and laundry and eat and sleep like all college students. Not many kids are really at the beach after Labor Day, especially on a Monday...and you can't party there on the weekends if you're an athlete.

Often a very good idea during the recruiting process to look carefully at the soccer schedule and find out what the players are Really doing week to week in the Fall. It's usually not what's on the website or admissions fliers, or even the ID clinic emails sometimes.

In fairness, if you follow the UNCW social media, both current and past coaches do have some sessions on the sand at the beach...not something you'll get at a Drexel or a Marshall for conference comparison.

But to your point, There is a lot of talent in SC that CCU could have have tapped into.

Hate to keep going back to 'no fulltime assistant for a year and a half, plus 90 days furlough where you can't even make a work-related phone call or send an email' but call me crazy, it seems relevant.

Previous UNCW coach refused to use beach imagery/proximity in recruiting. He felt it attracted the 'wrong' kind of kid. He wanted blue collar worker types.

Current UNCW coach loves the beach, so they're out there all the time & you see that on their socials. Remains to be seen how this will work out, as after next year he'll have no more of the former coach's players or recruits.

In regard to St. Bonaventure....I speak as someone who previously coached there...the most recent coach is a good person/extremely hard working/gave a full effort/cared deeply for his people/students/athletes...unfortunately he was at approx. 7 scholarships (combined with some restrictions on linking athletic/academic scholarships),...,a low part time asst. coach salary (I coached at a D3 that had a higher paid Asst. Coach)...no real possibility of club soccer coaching in the area (for head coach or asst. coach)...a shared locker room (ie, use the locker room in the fall, then vacate for the remainder of the year)....no equipment manager (ie, either the coaches wash/dry the uniforms/equipment or the players do it)...limited external support (athletic trainers who do not travel with the team/strength coach, who is superb, yet the only person, so most attention goes to men's B-Ball)...limited indoor facilities to train in in the off season (in a cold/snowy/remote/economically challenged area with very limited - outside of heavy drinking/drug use - social opportunities for students)....my personal opinion is the admins need to take a long/hard look in the mirror as they have let go of good people/coaches yet they continue to do the same things - sounds like the definition of insanity (my opinion only)

I 100% agree. You only get what you put in. The athletic administration hardly supporting that team is going to get a harsh reality.

It is amazing that some administrators are so lacking in self awareness that they fail to see the weaknesses in their school relative to others. It would be one thing if they didn’t support the program, but also didn’t expect results on the field. It’s entirely different if they expect to win with the level of support they are giving. That’s really too bad.

Thoughts on what the first power 5 opening will be? A thinks a few could open via retirement plus a couple non renewals.

Surely the next two weeks will be pretty busy with some changes.

many additions to the hot list based on the season?

Dartmouth W Soccer did not renew Ron Rainey (just got an email forwarded to me from a friend who went there) . Sad news--I think Ron is a GREAT human who looks after his team.
