Between PHI-NE and NSH-NYC, it’s like Friday Night Fights (OK, just handbags, but it is Friday). And Jair Marrufo had a red card tonight.
Also in that game Philly had one of their shots blocked by Marrufo's backside. Was he supposed to stop the game and give them a dropped ball? Or does that not count on shots? It was an odd play.
The weirdness continues. Fischer sends SKC's Espinoza off after a VAR review in the 58th minute of LAFC-SKC. Got to the right decision - Espinoza came down HARD on the LAFC player's ankle from the inside of the leg. The red mist is all over MLS tonight! EDIT - TUDN's Rameses Sandoval can REALLY draw out his goal calls!! The second one was 14 seconds.

Sixteen fouls and 3 cards doesn’t sound like it fits the description. Was a lot missed/let go or were there just a few egregious challenges? I ask because Lauziere needs a good performance if he has hopes of making assignments a more regular occurrence.
thoughts on what the call should be on the collision between Abubakar and Ebobisse here? 17 seconds into the highlight https://www.mlssoccer.com/video/wat...tch-mls-in-15-from-sj-vs-col-september-4-2021
visiting family and went to this game - overall he seemed fine although a few things seemed off… There were two instances where he let play continue through a foul and then whistled as soon as they broke through. While it looked to me like the defenders stopped playing because they expected a whistle (he had it to his mouth) blowing a whistle when someone is 1v1 doesn’t look great Brenner (CIN) dives a lot and it was really irritating to MIA; very clear wave off every time he went to ground but didn’t address it that I could see. Late in the game Brenner went down in the area under a heavy challenge - I didn’t see that well so I don’t know if that was another dive or he was fouled. Probably a lesson in there about crying wolf… First caution of the match was to Shea (MIA) for a foul right in front of the CIN bench (defensive third). He played advantage and there was a lot of dithering around in midfield and then another foul. It took what seemed like forever for him to go back and caution Shea. Seemed a weird advantage and he was slow to resolve the confusion. after he scored the game winner in 90’ Shea made an obscene gesture to some home fans who were heckling him. His back was to the referee, 4th was looking at home bench and AR1 was writing. His fitness was excellent and he seemed to read the play well. The coaches were two old ManU teammates (Phil Neville, Jaap Stam), who actually seemed pretty quiet - definitely more calm than I expected. Overall a relatively sedate game and not very hot tempered but I think those things would have come back to bite him in a more competitive or contentious atmosphere.
Consensus of us homer fans is that is a red card. If that was an elbow, shoulder or what ever, it likely would have been.
The beginning of the game was very chippy and aggro. But the early caution seemed to settle things down a good bit.
So, some thought the two reds in Nashville-NYCFC was an overreaction. If you take MLS literally here, the league technically wanted four reds: https://www.mlssoccer.com/news/fine...ght-mls-disciplinary-committee-decisions-for-
I read 3 VC reds (Cadiz being the third) and a bunch of yellows. Not sure if any among them had been booked. I'd have to check, but I'm at work.
Missed Cadiz. I guess I read it as 5 red cards then. Lovitz and Castellanos are guilty of violating the league's policy around hands to the neck/face/head. I recognize they aren't also given the one-game suspension, but I thought that had to do with missed VC only being punished with a suspension if it rose to a 2-game ban? Is the policy really written in a way where MLS fines players for "hands to the face" that doesn't reach the red card threshold in its mind? Because, well, that seems silly. EDIT to say that I don't actually think MLS really wanted 5 red cards there, of course! That's why I said "technically" above.
