Still risky to play on the road against a veteran team with a player who has not played with the "A" team. I think it will be either Steffen or Horvath and I would lean Horvath.
In the 2014 cycle they tied Jamaica at home and that started all the crisis mode. In fact Jamaica outplayed them and could have won. I think that can happen again but we shall see. I would not be surprised if they won all three of those matches either.
Is El Salvador really a veteran team? They haven't played a game in the final round of World Cup qualifying since 2009.
They still have played in tournaments though. Including the bulk of their nucleus in this Gold Cup. I would not risk Turner who has never even trained with the "A" team or played in a big road game outide of MLS. But it is up to Berhalter of course. The guy deserves to be on the roster and show what he can do in training I will say.
Personally, I like Turner over steffen and horvath, but that doesn't mean those other two are terrible keeps.
After the way he played this tournament it is hard to say any bad things about him. Just personally would not go with someone with such a small sample of games at the international level when Qualifying is right around the corner.
We have three very good keepers. None of them is a Brad Friedel or a Tim Howard, but they are all good, and look every even at this point. I'm glad that the person who has to pick which one plays a month from today in San Salvador is Berhalter and not me.
Jamaica would have won at RFK in 1997 if VAR had existed back then. TV replays showed that the handball that produced the US goal in the 1-1 tie took place five feet outside the penalty area.
WoW Peter Pendergast from Jamaica, historic referee of our beloved CONCACAF together with Chiquidracula Rodríguez, Arturo Brizio Carter, Felipe Ramos Rizo, Carlos Batres, Jair Marrufo, Mark Geiger, Joel Aguilar Chicas, among others… sorry that name brought me a lot of memories, many of them very shady tbh
