Place to discuss the non-US Gold Cup games since there isn't already one. Haiti wins the first round prelim game over St. Vincent and the Grenadines 6-1. SVG was a little shorthanded. REPORT: Due to Visa issues, St. Vincent and the Grenadines will be playing their Gold Cup Prelim match vs Haiti with 13 total squad players and no designated Goalkeeper. pic.twitter.com/97e0obEvdW— FlowSports (@FlowSportsApp) July 2, 2021 Bermuda v Barbados is kicking off now on FS2. Trinidad and Monserrat cap the night. Tomorrow is Guadeloupe against Bahamas, Cuba v French Guiana, and Guatemala v Guyana.
And 17 seconds and a VAR check later, Bermuda is up 1-0. All the pink seats in Ft. Lauderdale makes them look like the home team.
Guadeloupe 2 - Bahamas 0 Cuba didn't make it in time so French Guiana advances. https://www.concacaf.com/gold-cup/article/concacaf-statement-regarding-the-cuban-national-team/ Guatemala and Guyana will be on FS2 at 9:30.
Flipping around and see Bahamas Martinique on... and it's a repeat. Amazing double save by Martinique keeper in the 1st minute. Thinking, I've gotta by one of less than 100 people in the country who just watched that. So Cuba couldn't play and St. Kitts had no GK. I understand Covid makes things worse, but still. This is kind of an indictment against the goal of giving these Nations more games. Maybe CONCACAF should just let it go.
4-0 for Guatemala. Preliminary round 2 on Tuesday: 4:30 Trinidad v French Guiana for a Group A spot 7 Haiti v Bermuda for a Group B spot 9:30 Guatemala v Guadeloupe for a Group C spot
French Guiana make their first 7 penalties, but Trindad answered every single one. T&T advance on an 8-7 shootout win
Haiti is up 3-0 over Bermuda in the first 34’. Haitian/American Frantzdy Pierrot with the hat trick. Looks likely they will be our first opponent on Sunday, they should be a good test for our squad, Pierrot is a good finisher
Guadeloupe knocked out Guatemala. Game finished 1-1, Gaudeloupe won a 12-round shootout 10-9. They go into the Costa Rica-Jamaica-Suriname group.
They seem to be on the up for the past 4-5 years. I’ve been impressed with their organization and technical skill in the last few meetings we’ve had with them.
So Guatemala ended up undefeated in World Cup qualifying and Gold Cup qualifying and were eliminated from both. Pretty messed up.
Cuba couldn't get visas. Haiti qualify and within hours their president is assassinated. Just saying...
If anyone cares, the odds Mexico +100 USA +140 Costa Rica +1100 Canada +1400 Honduras +1400 Jamaica +1400 Qatar +2800 Panama +4000 El Salvador +8000 Martinique +10000 Trinidad & Tobago +10000 Haiti +10000 Curacao +15000 Grenada +15000 Suriname +15000 Guadeloupe +25000 Mexico unsurprisingly the favorites, though we're a lot closer than we should be IMO. Canada and Jamaica would seem to be decent value plays
Curacao out and Guatemala in. https://www.concacaf.com/gold-cup/article/concacaf-statement-curacao-delegation-at-2021-gold-cup/
I just received a text that says if another team drops out, I will have 48 hours to assemble the BS All-Stars. Battlestations, everyone!
Maybe Mexico will call up that fan team that scrimmaged Haiti... Anyhoo, speaking of missing the Gold Cup, Alphonso Davies is out with a training injury. https://canadasoccer.com/news/alphonso-davies-to-miss-concacaf-gold-cup/
