Insider story. use google translate https://www.ad.nl/buitenlands-voetb...-ook-kort-over-slavernij-zo-is-hij~acbfce602/
So, players association said the song story wasn’t true, but van der werff said it happened. He also confirmed the washington slavery story. So, whats the truth here? Did cincy just take any opportunity to get rid of the guy because they knew he was a bad hire?
Uhm, no. The translation is off. MvdW said RJ used slavery as an example that adverse condition can be tackled and overcome. Stories are told by the players union and in the press he somehow mocked slavery. That's not what MvdW says and also is in contrast with Ron Jans as a person. Most likely he was clumsy in his efforts to convey what he ment in English and that was being taken as bad intentions.
So, he used slavery somehow to try and motivate the team? I mean, anyway you wanna slice that, its dumb. Period.
In this country, yes. But it's really, really easy to miss cultural norms when you are not from that culture. Having lived overseas myself: been there, done that, and got the scars (or watched friends get them). One of our norms, these days, seems to be to be outraged about everything.
Well, in fact he was showing respect to those who suffered from slavery, but fought to overcome their disadvantages. Was it dumb? No, as that presupposes knowledge of cultural innate sensitivities regarding the subject. So the question is whether Ron Jans put his intention in ill worded speach as a non native speaker or whether some intentionally warped Ron Jans intentions into mockery.
I don’t think he meant any harm, it was just a dumb thing to do. Just like with the song later on. Meant no harm, but was dumb. Now, are these the only two incidents that make a trend, like the MLSPA said, or is there more? Hard to know without more details.
Anyway, in a Dutch paper's interview RJ said that after talks with the board he only saw one option and that was to resign. He didnot want to sit out the inquiery, as for him one thing was clear. He didnot feel safe anymore as he experienced the environment he was in not to be trusted. Probably he means that (some) FCC players and the board are insincere and he had the feeling if he stayed he had to watch his back all the time.
oh no... BREAKING: #DCU are targeting a big #MLS name: former Columbus Crew playmaker Federico Higuaín. Pipa was in camp with them in Florida. Details to come shortly.— Pablo Iglesias Maurer (@MLSist) February 26, 2020
I think my initial disgust is with who the team is. A west coast team or random newbie (like Trapp going to Miami) and I'm wishing him well and just thinking it's going be weird seeing him as an opponent in Mapfre. DC United? ew, gross. As for on the field, I think Higuain brings less to the table for the new style than even Trapp so I'm definitely not worried about that.
As a lifelong hater of DC United, this Higuain news excites me greatly. As a DCU supporting friend of mine said, "Who can't see how bad this is?"
Sure it’s sad but sometime to build a new team you have to move on from players. Would have been cool if he would have moved into a coaching role for us but he clearly still wants to play.
Fine. He can mostly chill in DC for a year, playing largely as a sub. Get a decent paycheck. Then return to Columbus next year and join the coaching staff when we launch the USL side, expand the academy and move into the new training facility.
Totally agree with this. I've never understood hating a player just because they move to another team. After all they are just trying to make a living in a profession that is very short lived. It still makes me cringe when I think of (some) the Nordecke calling Ale Moreno a Columbus reject his first game back in Columbus after his move. If they talk bad about the club/city then it's a different story.
