Agree that it is not called often, but perhaps he should tell Blessing not to make stupid challenges that give the ref a chance to make a decision. Not like it is the first time the Blessing has done something stupid.

Sporting Kansas City vs FC Dallas
    Children’s Mercy Park (3:30PM ET)
    REF: Alex Chilowicz
    AR1: Peter Manikowski
    AR2: Peter Balciunas
    VAR: Allen Chapman
    AVAR: Jeffrey Swartzel

No fourth for this game so AR1 was handling subs. I don’t know if this was a last minute thing, but the pro site has the listing above.

The attacker who was fouled ends up on the ground practically underneath the feet of the keeper. I'm not sure how you determined that the attacker had no chance to challenge for the ball on this play.

This still is quite deceiving. You can argue that it should be a penalty, but this is not the frame to use. Blessing took a gratuitous shot in the back of the attacker. You can say that anything that blatant should be called. But RedStar91 is correct when he says that the attacker was never getting that ball. It was in the air heading straight to the keeper.

Okay, how about a gif instead of a still: https://imgur.com/a/WiKiDUA

He's heading directly into the drop zone when he's fouled. Sure, the most likely outcome there is that the keeper wins the ball. But that's far from "no chance".

We will agree to disagree on whether he has a chance to get to that. :)

Is Stott’s send off of Beckerman the first instance of an incorrect recommendation (in the eyes of the referee) resulting in a correct red card?

OFR was recommended for SFP/VC, Stott disagreed. But it was a yellow and Beckerman already had one. So 2CT.

I don't know how Stott views that and doesn't have a straight red card. He rakes the keeper on the back of the head with the bottom of his cleat. Completely unnatural motion.

I think this was a first. Twitter lost its mind of course because no one ever remembers the other 100 times there's been a review for red where the referee comes away with a yellow. And of course then there's the folks who think Beckerman did nothing wrong. [emoji51]

Any word on what happened to Fotis Bazakos? MLS has him listed as the 4th for DAL SKC but obviously there was no 4th for the match.

The situation in Kansas City brings up an interesting question. I have to assume something happened with Bazakos on reasonably short notice. If MLS/PRO knew this say, six hours before kickoff, would they have some sort of emergency list of national/regional referees that could at least come in and be a 4th? In I know that if the center went down, the line of succession would probably go to AR1 in the middle instead of this emergency 4th, but it would at least provide a three-person crew. Omaha, St. Louis, and Des Moines are all within a 3-4 hours drive from KC. I'm assuming Kansas City also has several referees who could step in like this.

I'm not saying it's an ideal situation, but it's a workable situation.

That isn't applicable anymore due to covid. There isn't enough time to get a test in for the replacement official.

    To the fans.
I know they're not in the stadium.
    But they are on TV.

Okay, but the fans get to see the replay themselves. Over and over again if they’d like. So what are you selling to them? They get to watch and make up their minds themselves.

The act and art of selling a decision has always been almost exclusively about the on-field participants and in-stadium fans.

The Blake yellow is correct but for the wrong seeming justification. No way there were two players covering at the time of the foul. He did, however, play the ball so laterally and so far toward the touch line that this is one of those rare situations where the direction component truly comes into doubt.

Yeah, we shouldn't punish the attacker for changing direction a little bit to get around the goalkeeper, but that touch was so bad, he's already blown his scoring opportunity before the foul.
