Vanney steps down: https://www.mlssoccer.com/post/2020/12/01/greg-vanney-steps-down-toronto-fc-head-coach
He made a point of saying that he enjoys rebuilding and that there's nothing left to rebuild at TFC. He seems destined for the mess that is the LA Galaxy.
its funny, because TFC are a mess right now, only have 5 or 6 good players, and could really use a guy who knows how to build a team. What he really means is "Some hard-on really did a bad job of building TFC. Spent a lot of money, committed long term to aging players, and have high expectations to succeed with little chance of it happening." Anyway TFC are apparently courting Ben Olsen, so they're going to be a huge mess.
Juan Agudelo’s option declined #NERevs https://t.co/QYLTIIvzs8— Revolution Report (@NERevsReport) December 3, 2020
Juan's career trajectory is really disheartening. Of course most of the onus for this is on him, but I wonder how much Heaps' coaching style hindered his return to form?
He actually probably found his best form under Heaps. That said, he had opportunities under three different managers in New England and has no one to blame but himself.
The big question with his career will always be "what if he had managed to stick in Europe"? The EPL was always a long shot with his work permit situation, but his paltry production for Utrecht basically ended any chance he had of competing at a high level.
From the Timbers President of Soccer "We’ve already moved two players, which will be announced when the trade window opens. Those were trades with the players fully involved in the discussions to see what they wanted.” Wonder if Diego is headed west
Maybe, but it sounds to me more like two players heading out of Portland, not in. Portland Timbers offseason well underway with positions targeted and trades agreed December 3, 2020 4:53PM EST Tom Bogert Trade window opens for half a day on Dec 13 (day after MLS Cup).
Maybe I shouldn't be, but I was shocked to see SKC get trounced last night at home by Minnesota. So (as of now), the only way we MIGHT see fans at MLS Cup is if Columbus wins (BOOOOOOOOOOOO). Otherwise, if the Revs win, they'll be playing at Seattle or Minnesota, both of whom currently aren't allowing fans.
I think the Agudelo story, along with Fagundez, Herivaux and a bunch of others (ex., Steve Neuman) is a real indictment of the Revs piss-poor player development system for young players prior to Arena arriving. That said, I never really sensed much competitive fire in Agudelo - and it seemed to decrease over time.
I watched that game. St. Clair made a few big saves early on, then Minn stormed back. Reynoso (3 assists last night) is their version of Gil, and Molino was hot (his second goal was amazing). St. Clair went 6W-2L-5T since taking over as the starting keeper, plus 2-0 in the playoffs. Three straight shutouts (all 3-0). Seattle (4th Western Conference final in 5 years) has to be the favorite, but I wouldn't count out the Loons.
One of the Portland trades now rumored to be Marco Farfan to LAFC for xAM: Report: Portland Timbers trade Marco Farfan to LAFC, sign Claudio Bravo December 4, 2020 10:02AM EST Ari Liljenwall
Im pretty sure 1 of them is the Farfan deal, who theyre selling to LAFC for $300k and replacing with an Argentine FB for $1M
THE 25 GREATEST Honoring the 25 brightest stars in league history www.mlssoccer.com Not ranked, listed alphabetically. Dempsey and Ralston representing the Revs.
Quite a bit of activity in the Twitterverse about the omission of Shalrie. Not sure how much it's the homer in me (No, not Homer, Doh!), but I kept expecting to see his name as I worked through the list.
From a Revs perspective, I get that. Shalrie is better than Ralston. But from an MLS perspective, including his years in TB, Ralston accomplished more. He set the standard (since surpassed) for career assists.
Shalrie and Armas were definitely better players than Beckerman. I feel like there was a slight bias for the more current player who performed more with the USMNT. Overall there was a bias for attacking players and I think there were some overly nostalgic votes for some of the originals (Meola and Cobi Jones don't deserve to make the cut in my opinion).
