Next 6 D.C. United matches to appear on WJLA 24/7 News (formerly NewsChannel 8) and streamed live on team's website (geo-fenced). This was expected: DCU and Sinclair Broadcast Group signed pact in Feb. Second phase of in-market schedule might allow for games on WJLA-7.— Steven Goff (@SoccerInsider) August 20, 2020
Once again I can't watch DCU matches. I had subscribed to ESPN+ (and was psyched about it) to watch DCU this season. It blows my mind that in 2020 it's easier for me to follow English clubs than my local "Major" League Soccer club. I'm likely to just bow out the rest of the year. 2020 blows.
Do they archive the matches online? I won't be able to watch live, but also won't watch in low def where I could record the match on my TV. Even in high def the matches are barely watchable.
I don't believe they do on their website, but I bet you would be able to find it on YouTube after the fact.
Using ESPN+ in Loudoun County, the English language broadcast from this week's game was blocked, but I was able to watch the Spanish language broadcast on ESPN+.
Was trying to watch the pregame through the website on cellular, “not available in your area” for the MoCo suburbs. Even sitting at home in Germantown I can’t get the stream to play through data. Must use WiFi. Problems like this all season? Thx, Jay!
Lately I cast from phone to a Chromecast dongle on the TV. My phone is using the home wifi. Never tried with cellular at home, why would you do that if wifi is available?
yes; sometimes you have to tell the website your zipcode. Lie if you need to; it will try to use your device location info and then the location info of the server you are tied into.
Doesn't using a VPN solve that for these purposes. I did encounter one incident of shitty streaming from DCUnited and used a VPN to get the ESPN+ feed.
It does. I watch DCU games connecting to an IP address somewhere else in the US. I watch Pisa games connecting to an IP address in Italy. I watch RaiPlay and the Italian Netflix and Mediaset Play connecting to an IP address in Italy. It's $99 a year but for the use I make of it it's a bargain. Express Vpn. Very good and reliable.
Yes, Express VPN. Used it last year in Italy to watch the Formula 1 races on ESPN by logging in through the US. As Theo noted, you can use it the other way to watch foreign content that is unavailable in the US otherwise. Now some services constantly try to overcome VPN usage (looking at you Amazon), others seem they couldn't care less. Prior to the pandemic it was a global world and these territorial content barriers are just grifting by providers who folks already subscribe to in their "home" countries.
These things are so absurd. Serie B is shown on DAZN Italia, I could create a profile and I had the VPN, but I couldn't pay (10 Euro per month) bcs the system would recognize my credit card as a foreign one. Same with Paypal. I couldn't pay. Eventually I ended up using my sister's credit card, she lives in Italy so no problem. I am sure that when I will move back to Italy if I want to keep Espn +, I will encounter the same issues. It's so stupid, if I pay, why do you care where I live? I understand it's likely for anti fraud reasons, but credit card fraud is not only international, there's a lot of domestic one too...
